Cargill Invests 2 Billion Baht to Expand Thailand's Cooked Chicken Export Hub
Cargill is investing 2 billion baht to expand its cooked chicken production in Thailand, with plans to increase annual exports to 160,000 metric tons by 2028 through new automated facilities and AI technology.
Cargill is investing more than 2 billion baht (60 million US dollars) to expand its poultry business in Thailand and strengthen its position as a global center for producing cooked poultry products. Vice President and Managing Director Watcharapol Prasepkiatchaya said the investment reflects rising global demand for high-quality protein and will boost operational capacity and efficiency across Cargill's poultry network. The project enhances supply chain resilience, food safety, quality standards, and innovation to better serve global foodservice and retail customers while supporting Thailand's "Food Hub for the World" initiative.
A key component involves deploying advanced technology to improve production efficiency and cost management, including new automated cooked chicken production lines at the Saraburi facility, expected to complete in 2028. Over the next two years, Cargill will upgrade machinery and equipment and integrate artificial intelligence for faster, more accurate decision-making, while strengthening quality and food safety management systems.
Cargill currently exports cooked poultry products from Thailand to Japan, Europe, Asia, and North America. Following the expansion, annual production and export volume is forecast to reach approximately 160,000 metric tons, generating about 25 billion baht in annual export value for Thailand and creating over 300 local jobs. Additionally, Cargill is constructing a new 30,000-metric-ton grain storage silo in Nakhon Ratchasima Province near its animal feed facility, which will increase raw material storage capacity, support local farmers, and ensure stable grain supply throughout the year. Construction began in early 2024 and is expected to complete by December 2025.
Watcharapol stated that high-quality protein demand continues to grow globally, and customers seek reliable, innovative business partners. "This investment will enhance our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality products by investing in infrastructure, technology, and people. We are not only meeting rising customer demand for premium protein but creating long-term economic value for Thailand, farmers, businesses, suppliers, and local communities." The Cargill investment underscores Thailand's importance as a world-class production base for exported products.
