The Thai Climate Initiative Fund (ThaiCI), an environmental fund initiative, has received 4 million euros in funding support from the German federal government under an international cooperation framework. This represents a financial innovation to drive Thailand's climate action and achieve net zero emissions targets. ThaiCI opens opportunities for the private sector, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to access climate finance more readily. The fund provides grants to SMEs in hotels and accommodation, steel and steel products, and food and beverage industries to transition to appropriate emissions-reduction technologies. This preparatory support helps SMEs qualify for and access green loans and other financial instruments from financial institutions, scaling up investment in green economic transition.
Additionally, the Environmental Fund has received 2 million euros from the Green Climate Fund to implement the Thai Rice GCF project (launching soon), which will support Thai farmers in low-emissions rice cultivation. This initiative aims to help reduce global warming and strengthen adaptive capacity against climate variability.
