Chanthaburi has raised a yellow alert flag as floodwaters surpassing one meter inundate the region, forcing residents to evacuate urgently. Families are setting up makeshift shelters along roadsides, while farmers fear their fruit orchards will perish as water levels continue to rise.
At 5 p.m. on September 26, the Chanthaburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and Chanthaburi City Municipality hoisted the yellow flag near Wat Chanthanaram Bridge to warn residents and businesses in the inner red zone economic area to prepare and monitor Chanthaburi River levels closely. Large volumes of water from Khao Khitchakoot district are flowing downstream and combining with accumulated rainfall.
Heavy rainfall continues across Khao Khitchakoot, Kaeng Hang Maew, and Tha Mai districts, causing rapid accumulation and widespread flooding of residential areas.
Disaster management officials, military personnel, and rescue volunteers are deploying rescue boats to evacuate affected residents from dangerous zones to temporary shelters prepared by local authorities. The critical zone near Wat Krathing in Khao Khitchakoot experiences floodwaters exceeding one meter, with flooding blocking transportation routes and making it difficult for small vehicles to pass.
Floodwaters have also merged with areas in Makham district, particularly Wang Saem subdistrict, where the Chanthaburi River has overflowed its banks rapidly. Teachers, military personnel, local officials, and rescue teams are urgently moving educational equipment and valuables to higher ground.
Many residents whose homes are severely flooded are unable to stay indoors and have pitched temporary tents along roadside areas with their belongings and pets. Agricultural areas, particularly durian and fruit orchards in Wang Saem subdistrict, are extensively flooded. Farmers are deeply concerned, as rainfall shows no signs of stopping and prolonged submersion could cause root rot and widespread fruit tree death. Local officials and provincial authorities are urgently surveying the damage and mobilizing water pumps to provide emergency assistance.
