Thai Weightlifter Takes Silver at Asian Games in Japan
Thai weightlifter Veeraphol Vichumma claimed silver at the Asian Games in Nagoya with a combined lift of 365 kilograms, finishing just one kilogram behind Indonesia's Abdullah Rahmat Erwin in the 75-kilogram category.
Flight Lieutenant Veeraphol Vichumma won the silver medal in the men's 75-kilogram weightlifting category at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan on September 26, 2025, with a combined lift of 365 kilograms (snatch 160 kg, clean and jerk 205 kg). Indonesia's Abdullah Rahmat Erwin took gold with 366 kilograms, breaking the world standard record of 349 kilograms (snatch 160 kg, clean and jerk 206 kg, breaking the previous clean and jerk standard of 195 kg).
After the competition, Veeraphol said he performed to his intended level and gave his full effort. He acknowledged his opponent was strong and had aimed for gold but fell short, adding that he was pleased with Indonesia's performance. "Since the 33rd Southeast Asian Games ended, we've both been training. Neither of us competed at the Asian Weightlifting Championships. So today we finally measured ourselves against each other. The weight I attempted matched my training, and I've done better on clean and jerk in training, but I missed on the first attempt today, so I had to play catch-up," he explained.
Regarding his move to the 75-kilogram category, Veeraphol noted that the weight increase required more intensive training than before. "I didn't know how my opponent was training, so I had to prepare for different scenarios," he said. "But today, regardless, I gave it my all."
