Chery Group Introduces REEV Technology to Thai EV Market

Chery Group is expanding its product range and setting new standards by promoting REEV (Range-Extended Electric Vehicle) technology as an important option for Thai consumers hesitant about traditional electric vehicles. The REEV system uses a 100% electric motor paired with a small petrol engine that acts as a generator to charge the battery while driving, enabling longer journeys than conventional EVs without charging station anxiety. This provides freedom and convenience for drivers, serving both urban and long-distance travel needs, delivering a full electric driving experience with quick, quiet, and responsive acceleration without worries about battery or range limitations.

Chery Group began developing REEV vehicles in 2010 with the Chery S18D sold in China, and has continuously refined the technology. Today, various REEV models across multiple segments are popular in China and overseas markets. For Thailand, Chery Group has introduced two REEV models: the Jaecoo 6T REEV, currently receiving overwhelming consumer response, and the iCAUR V27 REEV, launching officially in September 2025, along with additional new REEV models from various Chery Group brands.

The REEV system's advantage lies in its engine design for electricity generation. When the battery is sufficient, the vehicle runs on 100% electric power, but during extended driving with low battery, the engine activates and generates electricity managed by an automatic energy management system that either charges the battery or powers the electric motor directly, depending on conditions. This enables efficient electricity generation even at low engine RPM, combined with heat management that reduces accumulated heat and engine vibration, benefiting long-term smoothness and durability. REEV electricity comes from three sources: the range-extending engine, regenerative braking, and direct plug-in charging.

Based on Thai consumer driving patterns and widespread EV concerns, Chery Group is actively promoting REEV as a solution tailored to Thai needs, offering hassle-free driving without range anxiety. Currently, Chery Group offers multiple REEV models in Thailand, including the Jaecoo 6T REEV, ideal for daily use with a maximum electric range of 190 kilometers (2WD model) and Thailand's first REEV with all-wheel-drive (4WD) for off-road capability. The intelligent i-WD system automatically switches between two-wheel and four-wheel drive while real-time torque distribution delivers maximum power of 428 horsepower and maximum torque of 505 newton-meters, with 0–100 kilometers per hour acceleration in under a specified time.
