Two Brothers Questioned Over Burned Remains Found in Rubber Plantation
Two brothers in Loei Province are being questioned after burned human remains were discovered in a rubber plantation; they claim their younger brother died at home and they cremated him due to financial constraints.
On September 14, Deputy Lieutenant Khomsun Patthom of Na Dung Police Station in Loei Province received a report that villagers had discovered human skeletal remains burned in a rubber plantation in Nong Pet Ka village, Na Dok Kham subdistrict, Na Dung district, Loei Province. Officers, investigators, and rescue volunteers rushed to the scene and found a pile of ashes with human bones scattered throughout.
The deceased was identified as Somkuan, 42, a resident of Nong Pet Ka village. Suspicion fell on his two older brothers, aged 67 and 60, who lived with him. All three men had mental health issues but were able to communicate with villagers. The last known sighting of Somkuan was on August 26, when he was seen buying liquor at a village shop.
On September 7, a subdistrict municipality official visited the house to deliver disability welfare money but did not find Somkuan. The two brothers claimed he had gone out. That evening, residents discovered the burned remains in the rubber plantation. Police detained both brothers for questioning. They claimed their younger brother became ill and died at home, and since they had no money for a funeral, they cremated him in the rubber plantation. However, authorities remain skeptical and are gathering evidence to pursue further legal action.
