Bangkok Film Festival Opens With 155 Films and Free Screenings
Thailand's second Bangkok International Film Festival opens with 155 films from 22 countries at ICONSIAM, featuring award-winning cinema, free screenings, and a focus on connecting Asian filmmakers with global opportunities.
The Bangkok International Film Festival held its second edition opening on Saturday at the outdoor riverside location of ICONSIAM, bringing together Thailand's diverse film industry in a rare display of unity. The Ministry of Culture is sponsoring the festival under the current government, with Culture Minister Saida Thaiseth and Princess Ubolratana both emphasising the festival's theme of 'Connecting Stories, Creating Opportunities' and building bridges between Thailand and the world.
The festival features 155 films from 22 countries, many award-winners from leading international festivals, carefully curated by festival director Donsaron Kovitvanicha. The programme includes classics, retrospectives, animations, documentaries, a Business and Market Section for Thai filmmakers to engage with overseas markets, and a Competition section with 18 noteworthy films. The opening featured a lavish red-carpet walk with renowned actors and directors from Thailand and across Asia, including Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, and Myanmar, reflecting the festival's focus on Asian cinema.
