Eight-Year-Old Boy Killed by Pickup After Chasing Ball Into Road
An eight-year-old boy died after chasing a soccer ball into the path of a pickup truck near Khlong Krathaeng Village in Phetchabun Province on September 14, dashcam footage showing the child had no time to escape the impact.
On September 14, 2024, rescue personnel from Si Thep were alerted to a fatal accident at around 16:30 when a pickup truck struck an eight-year-old boy as he chased a soccer ball across the road near the U-turn at Khlong Krathaeng Village, Khlong Krathaeng Subdistrict, Si Thep District, Phetchabun Province. At the scene, a black pickup truck with Chiang Mai license plate No. 4 was found with severe frontal damage to the driver's side, a shattered windshield, and a white soccer ball nearby. The boy's body was found at the scene. Witnesses reported that the child had been playing soccer at a friend's house before running after the ball from a roadside area into the path of an oncoming vehicle, which struck him with force. The impact caused his body to hit a distance marker sign, resulting in his immediate death. Dashcam footage from the truck captured the tragic moment when the eight-year-old dashed across the road chasing the white ball, giving the driver no time to brake before impact.
