Chinese Tourist Ride-Hailing Demand Surges 75% in Thailand
Grab reported a 75% increase in ride-hailing demand from Chinese tourists during the first nine months of the year, driven by popular spots like the Song Wat-Khlong Bang Luang area and Chiang Rai. Street food on Thong Lor saw a threefold rise in ride-hailing trips, while mango sticky rice remained the top dessert ordered via GrabFood, up over 50%. The data highlights growing Chinese interest in photogenic locales, cultural sites, and wellness trends across Thailand.
Grab shared insights on Chinese tourist behavior, showing a over 75% increase in ride-hailing use from January to September. The Song Wat-Khlong Bang Luang area became the top check-in location, with ride-hailing trips up to ten times for Song Wat and twelve times for Khlong Bang Luang. Chiang Rai continued to lead as the favorite secondary province, especially for visitors drawn to Wat Rong Khun and Wat Rong Suea Ten. Lamphun also emerged as a rising secondary city, with ride-hailing demand growing more than four times. Thong Lor street food revived, seeing ride-hailing demand increase threefold, as tourists favored seafood and hot pot meals. Mango sticky rice remained the number one dessert ordered via GrabFood, rising over 50%. Additional trends included the flower garland hair style driving almost doubled trips to Pak Khlong Talat, and visits to shrines such as the Ganesh shrine in Huai Khwang and the Trimurti shrine at CentralWorld rising over 45%. Chinese tourists researched Thailand on Xiaohongshu more than 13 million times during the period.
