Senator Demands Emergency Fund for Dairy Farmers in Crisis

Senator Serei Anil Bol demanded emergency government funding for Thai dairy farmers crippled by milk oversupply and unpaid bills from the state dairy organization, warning that systemic reforms are needed to prevent industry collapse.

Senator Demands Emergency Fund for Dairy Farmers in Crisis
7 Jul Khaosod

On July 7, 2026, at Parliament, Senator Serei Anil Bol used the Senate forum to voice the distress of dairy farmers facing an acute crisis. Raw milk oversupply has left farmers unable to find buyers, decimating incomes while production costs continue rising. During debate on a 10.3 billion baht emergency budget reallocation bill, Serei highlighted unpaid milk supply bills owed by the Thai Dairy Promotion Organization (TDPO) worth hundreds of millions of baht, leaving farmers in severe cash shortages. He urged the government to immediately deploy central or emergency reserve budgets to relieve farmers, warning that prolonged delays will damage the entire dairy sector. Serei expressed satisfaction that Deputy PM Phraryadr acknowledged the problem, noting the 2026 budget includes funds through TDPO for partial debt resolution and promised reforms to ensure transparent, corruption-free management. However, Serei stressed that mere budget injections without systemic TDPO reform will only create recurring crises. He called for genuine organizational restructuring, good governance, and anti-corruption measures. Serei and dairy farming networks nationwide stand ready to provide insights for TDPO management overhaul. He also proposed long-term solutions including supply management, market development, processing expansion, export promotion, school milk programs, and comprehensive industry mechanism review for price stability and sustainable farmer income. Serei concluded: "Farmers don't just need emergency relief—they need a fair system to sell milk at reasonable prices with stable market access. Government must seriously address this crisis and prevent the Thai dairy industry from becoming a murky gray zone dominated by dark influences, mafias, and vested interests controlling Milk Board decisions that harm farmers." He emphasized that the Milk Board, as a policy-setting organization, must ensure transparency, clear verifiable rules, and public accountability in industry governance.

Pickup Truck Crashes Into Power Pole After Skidding in Heavy Rain
7 Jul Khaosod

A pickup truck lost control and crashed into a street light pole at the Nong Krasang intersection in Non Thai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province on July 7, following heavy rainfall that left the road surface wet and slippery. CCTV footage clearly showed the truck approaching the intersection before skidding and spinning across the roadway, then striking the illumination pole on the road median with considerable force. The impact caused the pole to snap and fall, blocking traffic lanes and alarming nearby residents and road users.

Initially, one person was found with serious injuries, though their identity and details remain unknown. Emergency responders provided assistance and transported the injured driver to a hospital while clearing the road and removing the fallen pole from the area. Police have advised all road users to exercise special caution during heavy rainfall, as wet road surfaces cause vehicles to lose control easily. Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain proper distances from other vehicles, and drive defensively to prevent future accidents.

PM Launches ABAC Forum to Boost Trade and Investment
7 Jul Khaosod

Prime Minister Aneurin Chanyaweerakul opened the third APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting on July 7, 2025, at the Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration in advancing trade and investment while promoting the Thailand FastPass initiative to reduce business barriers and foster sustainable economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Prime Minister welcomed participants from APEC member economies and emphasized that ABAC serves as a crucial mechanism translating real business experiences into government policy. He stressed that the private sector understands which measures are practically implementable, prompting the government to actively solicit private sector input. In recent months, the administration has held continuous consultations with senior business executives and leaders, asking a simple question: "What obstacles make investment, business expansion, or job creation more difficult?" Often, the answer involves removing unnecessary steps and barriers rather than implementing additional incentives.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the current business environment faces increasing complexity, compounded by geopolitical uncertainties affecting business decisions. He noted that neither government nor business can succeed alone—the private sector cannot reach full potential without a favorable investment climate, and the government cannot create growth without business participation. This interdependence makes public-private cooperation essential for sustainable development.

A key government policy is positioning Thailand as a destination for quality investment through the Thailand FastPass project, which streamlines procedures, eliminates redundancy, improves interagency coordination, and enables quality projects to proceed faster, more transparently, and with greater predictability.

Regionally, supply chain resilience requires trust, clear and transparent regulations, efficient logistics, and cooperation among economies to maintain open markets even during challenging periods. The government therefore supports high-quality free trade agreements (FTAs), as long-term investment depends on confidence built through clear rules, fair competition, and improved market access. FTAs are not merely legal documents but mechanisms that give businesses confidence to invest, produce, and expand in specific locations.

In closing, the Prime Minister stated that APEC's strength lies in connecting government policy with actual business experience—more important than ever before. He reaffirmed that business voices hold value and the government must listen continuously, while committing to implement ABAC recommendations concretely and collaboratively to create an investment-friendly environment.
