Local authorities inspected the site on November 4 and found the incident occurred in a deep-water zone outside the designated swimming area, with neither person wearing a life jacket. Officials are working to identify the couple for potential legal action and plan to increase security measures at the popular tourist destination.
A wave of online criticism has erupted after images circulated showing a tourist couple engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior in the water at the popular Lam Nang Rong Dam in Non Din Daeng District, Buriram Province, in full view of other visitors. Preliminary investigations found the incident occurred on the evening of November 2, 2026.
On November 4, 2026, Jarit Thamwong, Chief of the Non Din Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, along with Tuenjai Chumsong, Deputy Chief, Suriya Sangwan, Head of Water Delivery and Maintenance Division 1 responsible for the Lam Nang Rong Dam area, and relevant officials inspected the site.
The inspection revealed the couple's inappropriate behavior occurred at a deep-water warning sign, outside the designated swimming zone, and neither individual was wearing a life jacket. Suriya Sangwan stated the irrigation department is responsible for tourist safety and has installed warning signs at deep-water points. This is the first such incident at the location, occurring around sunset while officers were patrolling the area.
Authorities will coordinate to verify facts, identify the individuals, and consider legal action. They will also collaborate with the subdistrict administrative organization and district administration to enhance security measures and prevent recurrence. Suriya urged tourists to respect the site's image, follow rules, and behave appropriately in public spaces, as such conduct damages the destination's reputation.
Wacharaporn Sriboonrat, a welfare shop employee, said she witnessed the couple's lewd behavior in the water while collecting dishes that evening. Unwilling to confront them directly, she reported it to her supervisor, noting the behavior was not only inappropriate but harmed the image of Lam Nang Rong Dam, a popular spot for families and the public. She appealed to all tourists to maintain order, respect the venue, and consider others so the dam remains a beautiful destination for everyone.
