The Department of Sericulture launched a mobile silk fair at three major city venues to link Thai silk producers with consumers and boost income for farmers and communities. The opening ceremony at Central Rama 2 in Bangkok was led by Director‑General Nang Niramol Sunguanwong, under the theme "Radiance of Value Under the Royal Patronage of the Mother of Thai Silk." The event runs throughout October 2026 and promotes quality silk products while preserving Thai cultural heritage.
The Department of Sericulture continues to promote Thailand's silk market by organizing the "Sericulture Mobile" initiative at three major city locations, connecting producers directly with consumers and generating income for farmers and communities. The campaign carries the concept "Radiance of Value Under the Royal Patronage of the Mother of Thai Silk" and encourages the purchase of quality silk and sericulture products throughout October 2026. On 1 October 2026, the opening ceremony was held at Central Rama 2 mall in Bangkok, with Nang Niramol Sunguanwong, Director‑General of the Department of Sericulture, presiding. Natthathorn Kahelong, Deputy Director‑General, presented the report, attended by department executives, mall representatives, government and private‑sector officials, farmers, entrepreneurs, media, and the public.
Nang Niramol Sunguanwong stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, through the Department of Sericulture, prioritizes improving farmers' livelihoods by continuously promoting and developing Thai sericulture products to preserve the wisdom of silk production and Thai silk weaving, while enhancing product quality and expanding market opportunities for stable, sustainable income for mulberry farmers. She emphasized that Thai silk is not merely an agricultural product but a priceless cultural heritage reflecting Thai identity, lifestyle, creativity, and fine craftsmanship handed down through generations.
Thanks to the boundless gracious patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, sericulture knowledge has been conserved, revived, and developed, creating occupations and income for many farmers and communities. The event under the "Radiance of Value" concept aims to perpetuate Thai wisdom and leverage cultural capital to generate economic value. The Department promotes sericulture occupations comprehensively from upstream to downstream, covering mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing, silk filament production, weaving, product development, and marketing channels, enabling farmers and entrepreneurs to develop quality products that meet consumer demand continuously.
Natthathorn Kahelong reported that the event seeks to raise awareness of the value, quality, and diversity of Thai silk and sericulture products, expand marketing channels for farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs to meet consumers directly, create trade opportunities, increase income, broaden the customer base, and encourage product development aligned with modern consumer behavior by blending traditional wisdom with contemporary design. The initiative also emphasizes a "market‑led production" approach, linking product quality improvement with distribution channels so producers can reach more consumers, while consumers can purchase quality sericulture products directly from farmers and entrepreneurs and learn about their stories and heritage.
