Thai Taekwondo Star Wins Bronze at Asian Games
Thai taekwondo athlete Patsakon Poolked won a bronze medal at the 20th Asian Games after reaching the women's under-49 kg semifinals and losing to China's Ma Jingyue. Her teammates Fais Sirwichit Mahamad and Kritayachorn Prompaktu were eliminated in the round of 16 in their respective weight classes, while Sasikan Thongjan made it to the quarterfinals before falling to an Uzbek opponent. Thailand's taekwondo squad earned one medal from four entries at the Games.
The taekwondo competition at the 20th Asian Games in Toyohashi Gymnasium on October 2 featured four Thai athletes. In the women's under-49 kg division, 'Im' Patsakon Poolked advanced to the semifinals where she faced China's Ma Jingyue, but lost 0-2 in rounds, missing the final yet securing a bronze medal. The men's under-58 kg athlete Fais Sirwichit Mahamad lost to South Korea's An Hyeong-sik in the round of 16. The men's under-80 kg fighter Kritayachorn Prompaktu was defeated by Kazakhstan's Batirkhan Tuyliqali also in the round of 16, 0-2 in rounds. The women's under-67 kg competitor Sasikan Thongjan reached the quarterfinals before losing 1-2 to Uzbekistan's Ozonoda Sobirjonova, ending her run at that stage.
