Cambodian rubber plantation worker Hai So, 47, was killed by a lightning strike while resting in a hammock under a rubber tree in Trat Province on October 2, 2026. Police and rescue teams found her body with burn marks on her left shoulder and a dead puppy beside her. Authorities are coordinating with her employer and family for religious rites.
At 2:00 p.m. on October 2, 2026, Police Lieutenant Sombat Kaewmulsuk of Mueang Trat Police Station received a report of a person struck by lightning and killed suddenly. The incident occurred in a rubber plantation near Wat Khao Thapon, Moo 8, Tambon Tha Kham, Mueang District, Trat Province. Police and volunteers from the Sawang Boon Chuay Trat rescue team rushed to the scene. Beneath a rubber tree, they found the body of Hai So, a 47‑year‑old Cambodian rubber‑plantation worker, lying in a hammock under the shade. Burn marks were visible on her left shoulder, and nearby lay the corpse of a black male puppy a few months old. Preliminary investigation showed that before the strike the sky was overcast and a storm was building, though no rain had fallen yet. Hai So had gone to rest in the hammock with her pet when thunder rumbled and lightning struck the tree violently, sending an electric current through her body and causing instant death. Police and a duty doctor conducted an initial examination at the site before rescue volunteers transported her body to hospital for further verification and coordinated with her employer and family for religious rites.
