Deputy Minister Oversees Flood Relief Efforts in Kanchanaburi
Deputy Minister Jeerasat Thai-Set visited Kanchanaburi on October 12 to oversee flood relief and discuss long‑term mitigation plans. He coordinated with provincial officials to streamline aid, clarify compensation criteria, and expand clean‑water access. The visit underscores the government’s ongoing response to flooding since late September.
On October 12, 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakul assigned Deputy Minister Jeerasat Thai-Set to inspect flood-affected areas in Mueang and Tham Muang districts of Kanchanaburi Province. The deputy minister, together with Governor Warissara Songruensri, vice-governors, relevant agencies, and local MPs, assessed ongoing relief operations and coordinated further assistance. He said the visit followed the prime minister’s concern for flood victims and was intended to gather facts and problems to inform reporting and solution‑matching to public needs.
Since September 25, 2026, Kanchanaburi has continuously monitored the situation and provided aid under the prime minister’s directive to all agencies to care for residents, prepare shelters, supply food and drinking water, and integrate efforts across sectors for timely, comprehensive relief. Jeerasat instructed the Department of Public Works and Town Planning to design flood‑mitigation measures, estimating a 360‑day timeline for systematic, sustainable solutions. He also ordered that damage data be separated before and after October 1 to clarify eligibility for compensation and the national disaster insurance program, and that public communication clearly distinguish between “flooded” and “surrounded by water” scenarios to avoid confusion.
Additionally, the deputy minister directed the Provincial Waterworks Authority to expand piped‑water coverage in the Wat Nord community allocation zone to serve Kanchanaburi City and Pak Pakrak municipalities, ensuring sufficient clean water for consumption and use. He warned that ongoing climate changes demand comprehensive preparedness, urging inter‑agency cooperation in monitoring, personnel and equipment readiness, public safety, and rapid response when disasters strike. Jeerasat called on all sectors to continuously update and share situational information, especially as conditions improve or relief progresses, to maintain transparent and effective communication.
