Thailand's Meteorology Department issued its fifth warning on tropical storm Maysak on July 4, 2025. As of 4 a.m., the storm was positioned over the South China Sea about 170 kilometers south of Nanning, China, at coordinates 20.3°N, 109.0°E, with maximum winds of 74 kilometers per hour, moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. The storm is expected to make landfall near Nanning between July 4-5 but will not enter Thai territory.
Under the combined influence of Maysak and monsoon troughs affecting northern and upper northeastern Thailand, plus strong southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, rainfall is increasing nationwide with heavy to very heavy downpours expected, especially in the northern, upper northeastern, eastern, and southern regions. Heavy rainfall is forecast to continue in the upper northern and upper northeastern areas through July 5-6.
Sea conditions are intensifying. The upper Andaman Sea will see waves of 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters, over 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.
The public is urged to plan activities and travel carefully. Updates are available from the Meteorology Department website (http://www.tmd.go.th), phone 0-2399-4012-13, and 1182, available 24 hours daily. The next forecast will be issued July 4 at 11 a.m.
