On October 28, 2026, at 4:50 PM, Pol. Lt. Col. Netithorn Thamaphan, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Mueang Amnat Charoen Police Station, received a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian on the Ban Kham Ngue Luem road in Non Pho subdistrict, Mueang district, Amnat Charoen province. He coordinated with the on-duty doctor at Amnat Charoen Hospital and the Amnat Charoen Rescue Association to assist.
At the scene, they found a bronze-colored Toyota pickup with a heavily damaged front end. The driver, identified as 64-year-old Mr. Subin, was found heavily intoxicated. About 50 meters away, 45-year-old Mrs. Bawarat was sitting crying while hugging the body of her 15-year-old daughter, Miss Rosares.
Mrs. Bawarat, in tears, recounted that she was walking to the rice field when her daughter, returning home by bus, saw her and got off to walk with her and help with the farm work. After walking just a few steps, a truck crashed into them violently. She regained her composure and saw her daughter had been struck and dragged far away. Despite her own injuries, she rushed to her daughter and saw her head was severely crushed and she had already died. The truck that hit them continued driving for another 50 meters before stopping.
"I wish I had been the one hit instead. Can I die in place of my daughter? I don't want her to go this soon," Mrs. Bawarat said through tears.
Initially, police tested the pickup driver's blood alcohol level and found it far exceeded the legal limit. He was taken into custody for legal proceedings.
