Education Ministry Sends Legal Team to Support Student Allegedly Assaulted by Officer
A 20-year-old student server alleges a Kanchanaburi police sergeant sexually assaulted her at a restaurant in May, with the Education Ministry sending a legal team to support her case after security footage emerged in August.
The Deputy Education Minister has sent a legal team to support a 20-year-old part-time student server who alleges she was sexually assaulted by a Kanchanaburi police officer ranked Pol. Sgt. Maj. at a hotpot restaurant, pledging to pursue the case fully. On August 1, the restaurant owner in Muang District released closed-circuit camera footage implicating the officer in the alleged assault of the student, identified as Ms. A, leading to a formal complaint filed with Lat Ya Police Station. The incident reportedly began in May. Subsequently, Pol. Lt. Col. Phaswee Ruangpoo, commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, ordered an investigation and established a disciplinary inquiry committee. Today, Pol. Capt. Suphap Sinak, vice commander of Don Makham Tia Police Station and head of the disciplinary committee, questioned the victim and restaurant owner as witnesses, with support from Bumipon Jongsukul, advisor to the Deputy Education Minister, attorney Sirisakdi Kanakuppt, and Pongsaphat Photthongkham, director of the Legal Aid Center, along with the Kanchanaburi Bar Association. The interrogation lasted over an hour, with the victim presenting copies of the security footage as evidence. Pol. Capt. Suphap reported that three witnesses were questioned today—the victim, restaurant owner, and manager—and findings align with reported accounts. The committee will now compile data for further action. Bumipon Jongsukul revealed he was instructed by the Deputy Education Minister and the provincial representative to oversee the case to ensure fairness to all parties, and confirmed the ministry will monitor the proceedings to conclusion and deliver justice to society.
