Thailand Approves Seven Major Development Projects
Thailand's cabinet has green-lit seven major infrastructure and development projects spanning transportation, water management, and healthcare, while also approving environmental protections for Kanduli Marsh in Suratthani province.
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak approved environmental impact assessment reports for seven major projects on September 24 during the National Environmental Committee's third meeting of 2025 at Government House. The approved projects span transportation, infrastructure, water management, and public health and include the Siriraj International Medical Institute project, Mae Phuak dam in Phrae province, ring road connector routes in Bangkok, the Phang Nga bridge between Long Islands, the brown line electric railway from Ekkamai to Lam Sali, Chumphon Airport expansion, and Phrae Airport development. The committee also approved the proposal to register Kanduli Marsh in Suratthani as a Ramsar Site to conserve globally significant biodiversity and ecosystems, and approved water quality standards adjustments and Thailand's position regarding the Stockholm Convention, as well as the cancellation of Hatyai Municipality's waste management system construction project to address ongoing refuse issues.
