Thailand Honors Environmental Monitoring with EIA Awards
Thailand honored 87 businesses and government agencies for environmental excellence on September 10, recognizing their strict compliance with Environmental Impact Assessment safeguards over the past 50 years.
The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning presented the 2026 EIA Monitoring Awards on September 10 to honor businesses and government agencies that rigorously comply with environmental safeguards. The ceremony at Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok operated under the theme "Shaping Sustainable Tomorrow" to recognize excellent environmental stewardship.
Deputy Minister Nantchai Subamongkol presided over the event, which attracted over 350 participants from government, state enterprises, the private sector, and the public. He emphasized that the government prioritizes balanced national development that protects natural resources, with the Environmental Impact Assessment mechanism serving as a critical tool for 50 years in balancing economic promotion with environmental protection.
The core of the EIA system, he noted, extends beyond approving reports to ensuring that prescribed measures are correctly, transparently, and verifiably implemented in practice to effectively prevent and reduce impacts on communities and the environment. The EIA Monitoring Awards have been presented continuously since 1995 to incentivize both private and government organizations to apply environmental measures concretely.
For 2026, 87 facilities received awards across four categories: 22 government project awards, 18 mining project awards, 14 petroleum development awards, and 33 energy project awards. The event also featured forums to discuss future EIA system development and exhibitions showcasing environmental management innovations from both public and private sectors to promote learning and sustainable participation across all sectors.
