Electrical Short Circuit Triggers Fire at Tao Poon MRT Station
An electrical short circuit in an overheated control cabinet sparked a fire on the Bangkok MRT Blue Line at Tao Poon Station on September 20, with no injuries reported but one motorcycle sustaining minor damage.
At 12:30 p.m. on September 20, 2569, Deputy Superintendent Kittipan Thantang Charnchai of Tao Poon Police Station ordered officers to investigate a fire that broke out on the Blue Line MRT tracks at Tao Poon Station in Bang Su District, Bangkok. Firefighters quickly contained the flames, and the station's power system was temporarily shut down as a precaution. No passengers or staff were injured, but one parked motorcycle below suffered minor damage from falling sparks.
Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in an overheated control cabinet. At 1:50 p.m., Tao Poon Police and staff from Bangkok Mass Transit System Company Limited (BEM) jointly inspected the third rail power cutoff system. Officers conducted a detailed survey of the tracks to assess damage and identify the root cause, with the aim of preventing similar incidents in the future.
