Family Injured Car Plunges From Broken Bridge in Kamphaeng Phet
A family suffered injuries after their car fell from the damaged Wang Khaem Bridge in Kamphaeng Phet Province. The bridge had been closed for over three years due to subsidence, but temporary barriers were not reinstalled, leaving outsiders unaware of the closure. Rescue crews pulled the three occupants from more than five meters below and took them to hospital, with no fatalities reported.
The family, not familiar with the route, was traveling in a Honda CRV with a Bangkok license plate when the car went off the Wang Khaem Bridge and overturned below. All three occupants—a 47‑year‑old man named Kiang Sak (surname withheld), his 11‑year‑old son, and a 45‑year‑old woman named Panisa (surname withheld)—were injured; the man suffered chest injuries while the woman had minor injuries. Rescue crews pulled the three from more than five meters of depth onto the riverbank, where the sandy bottom and lack of strong current prevented a worse outcome. They were taken to Khlong Khlung Hospital. Villagers noted that the accident spot is the approach to the bridge beside Wat Chantharam Temple. Normally a barrier blocks all vehicles, but two or three days before the crash contractors had brought equipment onto the bridge for work and failed to replace the barrier. As outsiders unfamiliar with the area, the family did not know the bridge was closed and drove straight off. Local residents urged the responsible agency to finish repairs quickly and enforce stricter safety measures, grateful that this incident caused no fatalities but hoping to avoid a repeat.
