Foreign Nominee Network Controls 22 Land Plots on Ko Lanta Worth 2 Billion Baht

A foreign nominee network controlled 22 land plots worth over 2 billion baht on Ko Lanta through multiple shell companies, authorities discovered during a crackdown in Krabi province.

Foreign Nominee Network Controls 22 Land Plots on Ko Lanta Worth 2 Billion Baht
24 Jul Khaosod

Deputy Interior Minister Pol Peer Suwannachavee visited Po Island in Ko Lanta district, Krabi province, on July 24, 2025, to oversee the crackdown on a foreign nominee land-holding scheme. An investigation by Krabi Provincial Police identified a single foreigner who established multiple companies as a vehicle to disguise the ownership of Thai land. The three companies are clearly controlled by the same individual, despite appearing on paper to be separate Thai-registered entities.

The scheme employed a sophisticated structure rather than simple proxy shareholding. Multiple companies were created, and they held shares in each other in circular arrangements, making the registered shareholding structure appear to be Thai-owned. In reality, a single foreigner was the true controller, investor, manager, and beneficial owner. Initially, several Thai nationals held small shareholdings to meet legal requirements, but their roles were gradually phased out and replaced entirely by subsidiary company ownership. Investigation found that all three companies operated from the same office, shared the same location, moved offices on the same day, had identical key decision-makers, reported to a single management center, and engaged in stock transfers within the network over many years. While registered direct shareholding did not exceed 49 percent, calculations including indirect holdings through subsidiary companies revealed that the foreigner maintained complete and unqualified control and ownership of the companies.

The network held substantial land in Ko Lanta district totaling 22 plots covering more than 126 rai, with a combined market value exceeding 2 billion baht based on online sale advertisements. The companies actively marketed the properties for profit, constituting a land-trading business, which is prohibited for foreigners under the Foreign Business Act.

Investigation confirmed all 22 plots covering 126 rai, 1 ngan, and 29.7 square wah, with a total market value from advertised sales exceeding 2 billion baht. Authorities have gathered sufficient evidence to prosecute under the Land Code and the Foreign Business Act. Police Region 8 will pursue four key courses of action: First, prosecute all individuals and juristic persons involved, including anyone who assisted or concealed the violations. Second, coordinate with the Krabi Governor and relevant agencies to enforce the Land Code and order the sale of illegally acquired land, proceeding to forced sale if not resolved within the legal timeframe. Third, expand investigation to all property, companies, and persons linked to the network across Krabi, Phuket, and other areas in Police Region 8 to prevent asset transfers or restructuring. Fourth, pursue additional legal remedies to address the full scope of violations.

A group of foreign tourists were caught on video making excessive noise on the BTS Skytrain in Bangkok, then verbally abusing a Thai person who politely asked them to be quieter. When asked to lower their voices, the tourists mocked the person, sarcastically saying "sorry for bringing money to your country" while making offensive gestures and bullying the individual. On July 24, an Italian man who is married to a Thai woman and resides in Thailand responded on Facebook, calling the behavior shameful and emphasizing that when traveling abroad, tourists represent not just themselves but their entire country. He expressed gratitude for Thailand's kindness and hospitality, stating that the minimum visitors should do is respect local rules, culture, and people. The Italian resident stressed that being a tourist does not mean one can do whatever they please, and he hoped the incident would not lead Thais to judge all Italians negatively, as most Italians understand the importance of respecting others. He concluded by thanking Thailand for the generosity shown to him every day.

Four Rescued After Speedboat Capsizes in Rough Seas Off Kram Island
24 Jul Khaosod

Four people—two foreign men and two Thai women—were rescued after their speedboat capsized near Kram Island, approximately 6–8 nautical miles off Sattahip Beach in Chachoengsao Province, on July 24, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Authorities believe strong waves and high winds in the sea caused the boat to become disabled and unable to continue.

Rescue teams from Pattaya, including the Pattaya rubber rescue boat 501, units from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya, the Sattahip rescue boat, and nearby tourist vessels responded immediately. All four passengers were safely extracted from the water with no serious injuries reported.

Once rescue operations were complete, officials towed the disabled speedboat to shore at Bang Sare for inspection and damage assessment. The Pattaya rescue boat 501 remained anchored behind Kret Island due to continued rough seas, waiting for weather conditions to improve before returning to port.

Current sea conditions are reported at wave heights of 3–4 meters. Authorities will monitor the situation closely and advise the public of any developments. Officials urge boat operators and the public planning to venture out to sea to closely monitor weather warnings and exercise heightened caution.

Parents Question Death of 5-Day-Old Baby in Hospital ICU
24 Jul Khaosod

A controversy has emerged surrounding the death of a 5-day-old infant in the pediatric ICU at Ang Thong Hospital, with a key turning point being the parents' decision not to cremate their child after a nurse called them repeatedly every 5 to 10 minutes asking if they had done so. Police are now preparing to question the nurse involved.

On July 24, 2026, foundation chair Paveena Hongsukul accompanied the grieving parents—a 40-year-old father and 36-year-old mother who had lost their newborn five days after birth—to meet with Deputy Commander Phakaphumi Phoolsiripoke, Deputy Commander Mongkol Onkaew, Deputy Commander Singlampong Pothsuea, and Police Captain Kantaphan Thanadhippinskul to follow up on the case and request CCTV footage from around the pediatric ICU.

Deputy Commander Phakaphumi revealed that investigators from Muang Ang Thong and Samko police stations reviewed surrounding CCTV footage and found images of people entering and leaving the area, including footage of the child's parents during the relevant time period. However, the hospital's legal team stated that such footage could only be released to investigators, as sharing it with other parties might violate Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Regarding the parents' claim of receiving inconsistent information about the cause of death, police advised them to file a formal complaint at Samko Police Station to proceed through legal channels.

The child's mother stated that after her infant died, a nurse repeatedly called every 5 to 10 minutes asking whether they had cremated the child, which aroused her suspicion and prompted them to postpone the cremation and file a complaint with the foundation.

Deputy Commander Phakaphumi acknowledged this as a discrepancy and said the nurse in question will be called in for questioning. However, while the parents insist there was CCTV inside the pediatric ICU room, police inspection found no camera installation there. To clarify the facts, investigators accompanied the parents to point out where they claimed cameras had been installed, as physical traces or leftover equipment would likely remain if they had ever been mounted.

Restaurant Gives Away 1,000 Bowls of Noodles for Needy Families
24 Jul Khaosod

On July 24, Puun Suk Dim Sum restaurant, located near Wat Isan in downtown Buriram, marked its fourth anniversary by preparing and distributing over 1,000 portions of traditional stir-fried noodles to the public, with priority given to low-income households and elderly people who do not qualify for state welfare or poverty cards. The initiative was designed to help ease the cost of living and offer encouragement to community members facing financial hardship.

The restaurant used approximately 70 kilograms of noodles, 50 kilograms of fresh pork, and 20 kilograms of preserved pork for the event. Portions were packaged and distributed freely without limit, allowing people to take meals home to their families. The restaurant also provided complimentary beverages including sugarcane juice, hibiscus tea, longan drink, and herbal beverages.

As distribution began, residents from various occupations lined up to receive the noodles and drinks in a warm, festive atmosphere. Within approximately two hours, all 1,000 portions of noodles and over 200 glasses of beverages had been distributed.

Nangsin Mietbamrung, 64, one of the recipients, shared that her household struggles financially as she cares for a disabled husband, a son with partial paralysis, a daughter recovering from surgery, a son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Only two family members receive state welfare benefits. She expressed deep gratitude for the restaurant owner's generosity, noting that even a single meal helps reduce expenses and can be shared with family members at home, alleviating the family's financial burden.

Dhanthat Loilom, owner of Puun Suk Dim Sum, explained that the restaurant normally serves breakfast items including dim sum, rice soup, noodles, fried eggs, and pork leg soup, open Tuesday through Sunday and closed Mondays. For the fourth-anniversary celebration, he decided to prepare and distribute traditional stir-fried noodles, a family favorite recipe, to approximately 1,000 people along with free beverages. He noted that regular customers also volunteered to help with preparation and distribution, and expressed his intention to continue these community-sharing activities on future occasions to spread happiness throughout society.
