On November 7, 2026, reporters revealed that on November 6, Natthaphong Wannaphat, Chonburi Provincial Fisheries Officer, along with Chonburi Provincial Fisheries Office staff, visited the Tha Ruea Phlee fish market in Mueang District, Chonburi, together with the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 2 to inspect a dead giant freshwater stingray carcass after locals spotted it on November 5.

The inspection confirmed it was a female Chao Phraya giant freshwater stingray, approximately 230 centimeters wide and 430 centimeters long from snout to tail tip. The carcass was still fresh. Officials coordinated with Chonburi City Municipality and Samet Subdistrict Municipality to support moving and burying the carcass at the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 2 following academic protocols.

Additionally, officers educated locals on the value and importance of marine and coastal resources, requesting public cooperation to report rare marine animals or stranded marine life via the Forest and Marine Protection Hotline 1362 so officials can respond promptly and effectively.

Going forward, the Chonburi Provincial Fisheries Office will proceed under the 2023 Fisheries Department Regulations on handling aquatic wildlife, wildlife carcasses, or products from aquatic wildlife carcasses, Category 4: Handling of Wildlife Carcasses. Thanks are extended to Chonburi City Municipality and Samet Subdistrict Municipality for their assistance in moving and burying the animal.

Parliament President Cancels APA Delegation Amid Border Dispute Concerns

House Speaker Sopon Saran's last-minute cancellation of Thailand's delegation to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting has sparked criticism that the country is surrendering a key diplomatic platform amid ongoing border tensions with Cambodia. Critics warn the absence lets Cambodia shape the narrative on disputes like Preah Vihear unchallenged, while also raising suspicions the move sidelined opposition lawmakers who were slated to join the delegation. The editorial urges the Speaker to justify the decision and consider reversing it before the assembly convenes.
