Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Thailand Through September 13
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall through September 13, with 36 provinces at risk of flash floods and river overflow in low-lying and hillside areas.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued severe weather alert number 11 on September 12, 2025, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall affecting Thailand through September 13. During September 12-13, the Southern region will experience increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy conditions in some areas. The lower Northern region, Northeastern region, central region, Bangkok and surrounding areas, and the Eastern region will see scattered heavy showers. A cold air mass from China is moving south over the upper Northern and upper Northeastern regions, while a monsoon trough is crossing the lower central region, upper Southern region, upper Gulf of Thailand, and Eastern region, feeding into a deepening low-pressure system off central Vietnam. The southwest monsoon is strengthening over the Andaman Sea, Southern region, and Gulf of Thailand.
The Meteorological Department has named 36 provinces experiencing heavy rain and urges the public to exercise caution against dangers from very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and rapid river overflow. Hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas are at particular risk. Residents are advised to avoid travel through chronically flooded routes, especially in low-lying zones where water may accumulate rapidly. The low-pressure system off central Vietnam is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone and approach northern Vietnam on September 13-14. The public is advised to monitor weather forecasts continuously.
