Severe Rainfall Warning Issued for 36 Thai Provinces
Thailand's Meteorological Department warned of severe rainfall across 36 provinces on September 12, with heavy to very heavy conditions expected in the southern, central, and eastern regions causing potential flash floods and mudslides.
The Meteorological Department issued a weather forecast on September 12, 2025, warning of increased rainfall in the southern region with heavy to very heavy conditions in some areas. The lower northeastern region, central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region are expected to experience heavy rainfall in places. Residents are urged to exercise caution against hazards from heavy and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods, runoff, and mudslides, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying zones. Travel through repeatedly flooded routes should be avoided, especially in low-lying areas prone to short-term flooding. The weather pattern is being driven by a high-pressure system and cold air mass covering the upper northern and upper northeastern regions, combined with a monsoon trough passing through the lower central region, upper southern region, upper Gulf of Thailand, and eastern region. A strong low-pressure system is developing near the central Vietnamese coast and may intensify into a tropical cyclone, expected to approach northern Vietnam between September 13-14. Southwest monsoon winds of moderate strength are affecting the Andaman Sea, southern region, and Gulf of Thailand. Seas in the Andaman and Gulf regions have moderate wave conditions, with the northern Andaman Sea experiencing waves around 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen are advised to navigate carefully and avoid thunderstorm zones. The department forecasts for the 24-hour period from 6:00 a.m. today to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow by region: Northern region has 40 percent thunderstorm coverage, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phetchabun provinces, with low temperatures of 21-26°C and highs of 31-36°C, easterly winds at 10-20 km/h. Northeastern region has 40 percent thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in places, especially around Ubon Ratchathani, lows 21-24°C, highs 33-34°C, northeast winds at 10-20 km/h. Central region has 70 percent thunderstorm coverage with heavy rainfall in places across Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram provinces, lows 23-25°C, highs 33-35°C, northerly winds at 10-20 km/h. Eastern region has 70 percent thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in areas including Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, lows 23-25°C, highs 31-34°C, variable winds at 15-35 km/h, seas 1-2 meters high and exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas.
