Tuk-tuk Crashes into Cyclist in Critical Condition

At 9:20 p.m. on September 11, the Samut Prakan Hospital Emergency Center received a report of a collision between a bicycle and a tuk-tuk on Baring Road, Soi 22, North Samrong Sub-district, Muang District, Samut Prakan Province. Emergency responders from Paotektung Foundation were dispatched to assist.

Two people were injured at the scene. The first was the tuk-tuk driver, identified as Sutthipol, 61 years old, who sustained a lacerated wound on his left arm and a head laceration but remained conscious and able to speak. Rescue workers provided first aid before transferring him to hospital for further treatment.

The second victim was an unidentified male cyclist in critical condition and unconscious. Rescue workers performed continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation for over 20 minutes but found no pulse before rushing him to Samrong Hospital for emergency care.

Witness Traitoat, 54 years old, reported that the cyclist was attempting to turn into the soi from the Samrong direction while the tuk-tuk was heading toward Samrong. The tuk-tuk was traveling at considerable speed on the left side of the road when the collision occurred, causing the tuk-tuk to swerve onto the sidewalk and overturn.

Tuk-tuk driver Sutthipol stated that he was driving straight when the cyclist suddenly cut across his lane. He attempted to swerve but could not avoid the collision in time, causing the tuk-tuk to skid, mount the sidewalk, and flip.

Police are currently reviewing closed-circuit television footage and interviewing witnesses and those involved to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident.
