Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern and Southern Thailand
Heavy rain and thunderstorms will persist across Thailand's northern and southern regions through September 29, with authorities warning of potential flash floods and landslides in foothill areas.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued a 24-hour weather forecast on September 29, 2025. Northern Thailand will see decreased rainfall overall but heavy rain persists in the western regions, especially Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai provinces. The south continues to experience thunderstorms. Residents are warned to prepare for flash floods, accumulated flooding, bank overflow, flash floods, and landslides, particularly in foothill and basin areas near watercourses. The southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is weakening.
Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are subsiding, with heights of 1-2 meters; areas with thunderstorms may see waves exceeding 2 meters. Fishermen are advised to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones.
**Northern Region:** Thunderstorms in 60% of the area with heavy rain in places. Affected provinces include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampoon, Lamphun, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet. Low 22-25°C, high 28-34°C. Southwest winds 10-20 km/h.
**Northeastern Region:** Thunderstorms in 30% of the area, mainly in Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Low 23-25°C, high 33-35°C. South winds 10-20 km/h.
**Central Region:** Thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mostly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram. Low 22-25°C, high 32-35°C. South winds 10-20 km/h.
**Eastern Region:** Thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Low 24-26°C, high 31-34°C. South winds 15-30 km/h. Waves around 1 meter, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.
**Southern Region (East Coast):** Thunderstorms in 60% of the area, mostly in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Low 22-25°C, high 31-36°C. South winds 15-30 km/h. Waves around 1 meter, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.
**Southern Region (West Coast):** Thunderstorms in 60% of the area, mostly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang, and Satun. Low 24-26°C, high 31-35°C. From Phang Nga northward: southwest winds 15-35 km/h, waves 1-2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm zones. From Phuket southward: southwest winds 15-30 km/h, waves around 1 meter, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.
**Bangkok and Vicinity:** Thunderstorms in 40% of the area with decreasing rainfall. Low 25-27°C, high 32-35°C. South winds 10-20 km/h.
