Environment Minister Deploys Six Field Kitchens for Bangkok Flood Relief
Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin deployed six field kitchens across flooded Bangkok communities, capable of producing 20,000 daily meals and delivering water and supplies by boat to areas cut off by roads.
Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Rawee Buridetc and senior officials, visited the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration coordination center in Lad Krabang on September 29 to monitor the flood situation and expedite relief efforts. The department opened field kitchens to prepare and distribute fresh meals, and brought traditional Thai snacks to boost morale among disaster victims before teams deployed by boat into the Kheha Rom Klao community to deliver food, water, and essential supplies to areas inaccessible by road.
Minister Suchart stated that the department is mobilizing all units to accelerate aid delivery to affected areas, especially communities with severe flooding and no road access, with all agencies coordinating efforts in food, water, necessities, and patient care.
For food provision, the department increased field kitchens from three to six units, capable of producing at least 20,000 cooked meals daily and distributing 20,000 bottles of drinking water daily, along with essentials including fans, powdered milk, clothing, and elderly care equipment. Three field kitchens were deployed to Kheha Rom Klao 33 with staff and boats supporting food and supply transport into communities.
For patient care, the department stationed three emergency response vehicles at the Lad Krabang center to transport people for treatment throughout the day. To date, the vehicles have transported three patients for medical care and assisted 27 others including the injured, disabled, pregnant women, and those with health needs requiring continuous medical access.
The department mobilized over 100 staff from the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant departments, the Forestry Department, the Water Resources Department, the Groundwater Resources Department, the Marine and Coastal Resources Department, and the Pollution Control Department, equipped with boats and support gear to continuously assist residents with meal preparation and transport, water and supply delivery, and patient transport.
Minister Suchart reiterated that the department's current mission is: food must reach people, boats must reach communities, and patients must reach doctors. All agencies will work together under the unified approach to care for residents continuously until the situation is fully resolved.
