Environment Minister Orders Flood Relief Surge in Bangkok
Thailand's Environment Minister has ordered a surge in flood relief for Bangkok's Ram Khamhaeng and Lad Krabang areas, mobilizing five mobile canteens to distribute 6,000 daily meals and water to displaced residents starting September 28.
Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin has directed the Department of Natural Resources to accelerate flood assistance in the Ram Khamhaeng and Lad Krabang areas, delivering food and drinking water to affected residents. On September 28, 2025, Suchat and Dr. Raviwan Buridet, Permanent Secretary of the Natural Resources Ministry, visited King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lad Krabang to coordinate Bangkok's relief efforts in the district and monitor the flood situation and public assistance measures.
Officials were ordered to urgently deliver food, water, and essential supplies to all residents, with special attention to elderly people, children, patients, and vulnerable groups. The department has mobilized personnel, vehicles, boats, and resources from affiliated agencies, adding three mobile canteens. This brings the total to five canteens by September 29, capable of preparing approximately 2,000 boxed meals per serving, or 6,000 daily, for distribution to flood-affected areas.
On the morning of September 28, the Forestry Department's mobile canteen began operations, preparing and distributing cooked meals to flood victims, starting with stir-fried chicken with holy basil and onion omelette to ease hardship for residents unable to leave affected areas to obtain food normally. The department also provided 6,000 bottles of drinking water and prepared personnel, boats, and necessary equipment to support evacuation operations to safe areas as the situation requires.
This escalation follows Suchat's directive for the department to rapidly mobilize personnel, vehicles, boats, equipment, and resources from all affiliated agencies to assist flood-affected residents. The effort is coordinated with Bangkok and local agencies to ensure swift and responsive aid delivery, including food and water supply, vulnerable group support, and evacuation assistance as needed.
The Permanent Secretary instructed staff to closely monitor the situation and prepare personnel, vehicles, boats, machinery, water pumps, and necessary equipment for rapid deployment. The department stands ready to adjust resources according to circumstances and sustain assistance until the crisis resolves.
Affected residents in Ram Khamhaeng and Lad Krabang can contact the Bangkok relief coordination center at Lad Krabang District, based at the Chaophraya Suriwong Wai Wathanai Assembly Hall at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lad Krabang, the primary coordination hub for area assistance. Siamchang Niyam, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Natural Resources Ministry, is coordinating relief efforts in the field.
