Democrat Party Leaders Deliver Aid to Flood-Hit Bangkok Community
Democrat Party leaders including former PM Abhisit delivered relief supplies to Bangkok flood victims in Bang Kapi district on September 29, marking the first aid to reach isolated interior neighborhoods since flooding began.
On September 29 at 3 p.m., Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, list-candidate and former prime minister Chuan Leekpai, deputy party leader Chaiyasit Dechdetcho, and party members visited flood victims at a temporary shelter at Bangkok College of Arts and Crafts in Bang Kapi district. They then proceeded to Ladprao Soi 101 in the Happyland area and Sinthorn village. The team found that the narrow sois and difficult access routes could not accommodate large vehicles, so they transferred relief supplies to pickup trucks to ensure bags could reach residents at the end of the alley. Abhisit apologized for not bringing more supplies due to travel constraints.
The atmosphere during the visit was warm. Residents were delighted and gathered for photographs with the two former prime ministers, expressing heartfelt gratitude that the Democrat Party was the first group to reach the interior areas. "We haven't eaten yet, but just seeing your faces lifts our spirits," one flood victim said with emotion. Other residents revealed that no government agency had accessed the area since the flooding began, so the Democrat Party's relief effort provided immediate comfort and boosted morale in the crisis zone.
