Rapid Floods Kill Thousands of Chickens, Farm Faces Million-Baht Loss
Rapid floodwaters inundated a Kamphaeng Phet chicken farm in late September, drowning thousands of birds and causing over one million baht in losses. The farm is now selling the deceased poultry at steep discounts to recover costs.
On September 29, 2569, a broiler chicken farm in Mueang district, Songkram subdistrict, Kamphaeng Phet province, was hit hard by rapid flooding. The farm owner reported keeping approximately 20,000 chickens, but floodwaters rushed in faster than expected, leaving staff little time to evacuate the animals. Workers managed to rescue only about 8,000 birds to safety, while the remaining thousands were trapped by the rising water and drowned. Initial damage assessments, accounting for the dead birds, ruined feed supplies, and other expenses, put the total loss at over one million baht.
To mitigate the loss, the farm has begun selling the drowned chickens at a special discounted price of just five birds for 100 baht. Since news of the offer spread, neighboring residents have been visiting continuously to support the farm by purchasing the birds for cooking.
