PM Assigns Defense Minister to Oversee Bangkok Flood Management
The Prime Minister has appointed the Defence Minister to oversee Bangkok's water management following recent flooding, as part of a broader cabinet effort to coordinate flood relief across Thailand's regions.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has assigned General Anuditya Boonthumcharoen, Minister of Defence, to oversee water management in Bangkok. At 2 p.m. on September 29, 2026, at Government House, Ekapon Phinphisekh, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the results of the Cabinet meeting regarding flood relief and recovery efforts. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Interior Minister ordered at the Cabinet meeting on measures to assist and remedy flood damage. Previously, the Prime Minister had assigned deputy prime ministers to supervise and manage water in each region. Deputy Prime Minister Chanan Wongsatdit, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, oversees the northern region. Deputy Prime Minister Songsakdi Thongsri is responsible for the northeastern region. However, there had been no specific assignment for Bangkok. Therefore, General Anuditya Boonthumcharoen, Minister of Defence, who led operations during the recent flooding in Bangkok, has now been assigned to oversee and manage Bangkok's water situation going forward.
