Agriculture Minister Orders Livestock Aid for Flood Victims

Agriculture Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit has ordered the Department of Livestock Development to accelerate assistance to farmers and livestock owners in all flood-affected provinces, with continuous monitoring and damage assessment to provide relief under the 2025 emergency agricultural disaster guidelines.
Veterinarian Somchuan Rattanmangkalanon, director of the Department of Livestock Development, confirmed the minister's directive to urgently assist affected livestock farmers in flood zones since early September. The initial survey covers 10 provinces including Chainat, Saraburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Mae Hong Son, and Uthai Thani, encompassing 20 districts, 44 subdistricts, and 84 villages affecting 2,313 farmers. Total livestock in flooded areas numbers 715,370 animals: 3,358 cattle, 2,460 buffalo, 8,075 pigs, 2,202 goats and sheep, and 699,275 poultry, plus 267 rai of pastureland.
Preliminary damage surveys in Rayong and Mae Hong Son provinces show 20,024 animals dead or missing, comprising 1 cow, 1 buffalo, and 20,022 poultry. The Department of Livestock Development is conducting systematic surveys to assess eligibility for relief assistance. Initial response measures include distributing 22,000 kilograms of royal-gifted animal feed, evacuating 381,131 animals from risk areas, distributing 6,519 animal health support packages, and deploying mobile veterinary units.
Compensation follows 2025 emergency agricultural disaster protocols with rates varying by species and age: cattle 13,000-35,000 baht per head (maximum 5 per farmer), buffalo 15,000-39,000 baht per head (maximum 5 per farmer), pigs 1,500-3,000 baht per head (maximum 10 per farmer), goats and sheep 1,500-3,000 baht per head (maximum 10 per farmer), and poultry rates varying by type. Pastureland damage receives 3,180 baht per rai, maximum 30 rai per farmer.
