Boy, 11, Sucked Into Drain Pipe During Saraburi Floods
An 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle in flooded Saraburi was sucked into a drainage pipe and swept 200 meters before rescuers found his body lodged in a bypass junction.
An 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle with a friend in flooded Saraburi fell into a drainage pipe and was swept away. Rescue workers found his body 200 meters away, lodged in a bypass section of the drainage system.
On September 29, Somjit Siriseang, an investigator with Nong Khaem Police in Saraburi province, received a report of a child who had fallen into a drainage pipe near a village subdivision close to Hin Gong Municipality, in Huai Sai subdistrict, Nong Khaem district, Saraburi. Officers immediately rushed to the scene with volunteer rescue divers and Buddhist rescue volunteers from Saraburi.
According to the boy's friend, the two had been cycling near the flooded area when his companion waded into the water. The boy fell into a roadside ditch and was sucked into the 1.5-meter-wide drainage pipe. Officers shut off the water and opened the pipe to search, finding the boy's body lodged at a bypass junction between the municipal and subdistrict drainage sections, approximately 200 meters from where he was swept in. His body was removed as the family and neighbors grieved.
Officers coordinated with a physician for a preliminary autopsy before transferring the body to the hospital and proceeding with legal investigation.
