Thailand to Host IMF-World Bank Meeting in 2026
Thailand will host the IMF‑World Bank meeting in 2026, using the event to highlight its economy based on the sufficiency philosophy and to promote government policies. Deputy Prime Minister Si-hasak Phuangketkaew said the conference will attract global investors, officials and business leaders, and will boost tourism and spending. He clarified that the U.S. Treasury secretary will not attend because of domestic commitments, but interest remains high.
Speaking at 5:30 p.m. on October 12, 2069 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Si-hasak Phuangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, outlined the economic opportunities arising from Thailand’s role as host of the 2026 IMF‑World Bank conference. The gathering will bring foreign investors, international funds, finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives from government, business and civil society from nearly every country. He said the meeting offers a key chance to present Thailand’s economic development, which is grounded in King Bhumibol’s sufficiency economy philosophy, alongside the government’s short‑ and long‑term economic policies. Beyond the conference rooms, the visit will leave participants with a favorable impression of Thailand, stimulate spending on goods and services, and encourage future travel to the country. Informal talks with senior officials, finance ministers and central bank leaders from around the world will also provide valuable networking and business opportunities. Regarding the absence of the U.S. Treasury secretary, Si-hasak explained it was due to the official’s domestic schedule, adding that the conference continues to draw considerable attention and a large number of international delegates.
