Israeli Man Arrested in Chiang Mai With 200 Untaxed Cigarette Packs

Chiang Mai — On 10 September 2026, Excise Department officers and police arrested a 41-year-old Israeli man at a condominium in Chiang Mai after discovering 200 packs of allegedly untaxed foreign cigarettes. Officials identified the man only as Mr A, arrested at a condominium in Nong Hoi subdistrict, Muang district, at approximately 14:30. Officers from the Excise Department's Regional Office 5 and Mae Ping Police Station seized 20 cartons containing 200 packs of cigarettes. The arrest followed a tip-off that a foreign national had ordered untaxed cigarettes for delivery through a private courier service. Condominium staff were asked to notify the recipient when the parcel arrived, after which officers moved in to make the arrest. The man allegedly admitted ordering the cigarettes, telling officers they were for his own use.
