Justice Minister Says Forex Charges Filed This Week, Names Included

At 1:40 p.m. on September 21, 2025, at Government House, Justice Minister Rutthapol Naovaratna discussed the progress of the case against Somchai Techatawornjaroensri, a Phuket Democrat MP, regarding the holding of real estate and condominium units together with a foreign national (nominee). The Justice Minister stated that the third and final summons is set for September 28 and expressed hope that Somchai would comply. However, if he fails to appear, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will proceed according to regulations.

When asked what action would be taken if Somchai does not appear on September 28, Rutthapol said the DSI would report the matter to Thung Song Hin Police Station so that proceedings under Section 24 of the Special Investigation Act could be initiated. The key point is that anyone summoned to provide clarification must comply with the DSI, and failure to do so without valid cause carries penalties. If necessary, the DSI would file charges at Thung Song Hin Police Station, which falls under DSI jurisdiction.

When asked whether an arrest warrant could be issued if he does not appear, the Justice Minister said investigators must review the details carefully and proceed accordingly. Regarding progress in the Forex case, Rutthapol said he would verify the details but was initially informed that the indictment would be submitted to prosecutors this week, as the case file is complete. Regarding whether the names of politicians or artists appear in the file, he said that would need to be verified first. When pressed on whether the name of Phawut Pongwittayapanu, a Democrat list MP, appears in the indictment, the Justice Minister simply answered "yes."
