On July 7, 2026, Surapong Intharathavorn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), announced that the NACC board has indicted Withaya Somsrisomsakul and five others for conspiring to solicit 6 million baht as compensation to encourage officials to release British national Ritesh Patel on bail. Patel had been detained after illegally entering Thailand using someone else's travel documents.

According to the investigation, police arrested Patel on June 27, 2025, after he entered Thailand illegally using falsified travel documents. He was held at the Phuket Immigration Bureau. Patel's friend then contacted intermediaries to arrange his release on bail. On June 29, 2025, an intermediary contacted Withaya Somsrisomsakul, who claimed to know Colonel Rames Kaewsuengneoen, a police academy classmate of the Deputy Police Commissioner. Rames reportedly had authority over foreign detention matters and promised to help secure Patel's release.

Withaya instructed the intermediary to transfer 1 million baht initially to an account of Aphirak Thiengthum. Later, Withaya claimed that Colonel Rames needed 6 million baht total to coordinate with immigration officials. The intermediary met Withaya at the foreign detention facility at the Bangkok Police Club, where Withaya called Rames and handed the phone to an immigration officer. The officer stated there was no policy allowing visits and no orders from superiors authorizing anyone's visit.

Withaya then said the money needed to be arranged first. The intermediary instructed Thiraworn Khiewngam to prepare additional funds, and Withaya requested a transfer of 5 million baht more to accounts of Nattnaree Boonma and Thipsuda Insongjaidee as instructed. However, Patel's case remained unresolved.

Thailand Taps $4.7 Trillion Pink Economy Opportunity

Thailand Taps $4.7 Trillion Pink Economy Opportunity
1h ago Khaosod

Thailand is positioning itself to capitalize on the global Pink Economy, valued at over $4.7 trillion USD, with continuous growth potential. As the country advances toward hosting World Pride 2030—expected to generate around 24 billion baht in economic value—the real question is not whether opportunities exist, but how Thailand can translate this potential into measurable economic growth. At the PRIDE MOVE: Thailand Pride Economy Forum 2026, held at True Digital Park, Dr. Theeradej Damrongplasit, CEO of True Corporation's enterprise business group, highlighted the company's capacity to combine Mobility Data Platform and GeoAnalytics capabilities to help government, business, and tourism sectors understand city readiness, travel patterns, and market opportunities—all while maintaining strict data privacy compliance under Thailand's PDPA law. This data-driven approach aims to unlock business opportunities for diverse sectors and serve consumers with evolving preferences.

Dr. Theeradej emphasized that Thailand's challenge is not simply being open and welcoming to diversity, but converting that diversity into economic power through data and technology. By deeply understanding LGBTQIA+ consumer and tourist behavior, both the public and private sectors can leverage insights to strengthen national preparedness across tourism, services, mobility, lifestyle, and investment. This effort will help drive the Pride Economy and propel Thailand from merely being "LGBTQIA+ Friendly" to becoming a true "LGBTQIA+ Destination."

The key to this transformation lies in understanding people through real data rather than outdated demographic assumptions. The LGBTQIA+ demographic represents high-spending consumers ready to invest in quality experiences, products, and services. True's Mobility Data and GeoAnalytics tools analyze travel and lifestyle patterns at an aggregate level without identifying individuals, complying fully with personal data protection standards. This enables businesses and relevant agencies to see how people actually move, participate in activities, live, and engage economically in different areas, helping them tailor offerings and strategies accordingly.

Three Online Gambling Admins Arrested Sneaking Back Into Thailand

Three Thai online gambling administrators were arrested while illegally crossing the Thai-Cambodia border near Sa Kaeo after losing their jobs when Cambodia shut down their operation in early 2025.

Three Online Gambling Admins Arrested Sneaking Back Into Thailand
1h ago Khaosod

At 8:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025, ranger forces from the Aranyaprathet Special Operations Unit and the 1201 Ranger Company conducted border patrol operations in the area between checkpoint 13-14 at Ban Dong Ngu, Pa Rai subdistrict, Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. They discovered three Thai nationals—two men and one woman—who had illegally entered the country without authorization and took them into custody for questioning.

Background checks revealed that one suspect was linked to five cases and had an outstanding warrant from the Juvenile and Family Court. The other two suspects had no arrest warrants. During interrogation, all three confessed to working as online gambling website administrators in Poipet, Cambodia, since July 2024. When their employer relocated the operation from Thailand to Cambodia to escape Thai law enforcement crackdowns, they followed. In early 2025, Cambodia launched sweeps against illegal businesses and foreign workers, forcing the gambling site to shut down. Unemployed and broke, the suspects resorted to selling drinking water and lotus leaves in Poipet but struggled to earn income. With no money left and facing strict enforcement, they decided to trek back to Thailand by crossing canals and cutting through barbed-wire fences.

Authorities are holding all three suspects and have forwarded the case to Khlong Lek Police Station in Sa Kaeo province for legal proceedings. Investigators are also pursuing other network members involved in cross-border online gambling operations who remain at large.

1h ago Khaosod

Ban Taluk Hin School in Sak Halek District, Phichit Province, covering four villages with over 41 students, had no classroom building and resorted to temporary lessons in a mango orchard owned by a local farmer near the school. The original four classrooms, built over 50 years ago, had deteriorated badly. A school administrator auctioned off the buildings and lacked budget for reconstruction.

On July 7, 2026, Vivat Polprasert, Director of the Phichit Primary Education Zone 1 Office, announced that the Education Ministry has approved over 500,000 baht to build a temporary knock-down structure. Engineers from the education office are currently designing the building. Once completed, it will be sent to the school for construction following specifications. In the meantime, students have been relocated to Taluk Hin Temple for classes.

Regarding the auctioned buildings that sold for 40,000 baht, the acting principal confirmed the funds were recorded as government revenue. The principal also stated uncertainty about the source of a 90,000 baht donation received by the school, which remains intact in the school account and requires the school committee's approval for withdrawal.

Thai Actress Leaves Entertainment for Dubai Airline Career

Thai actress Mew Laksana Nara left the entertainment industry to become a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines in Dubai, completing her final acting role before starting her new career nearly a year ago.

Thai Actress Leaves Entertainment for Dubai Airline Career
1h ago Khaosod

Thai actress Mew Laksana Nara has taken to the skies as a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines, stepping away from entertainment after nearly one year in Dubai. She completed her final acting role as "Wannawali" in the mystery drama series "Prakaeng Saeng Chan" on Amarin TV HD Channel 34 before embarking on her new career path.

In an interview, Mew reflected on her unconventional career shift. "I've been living there almost a year now, and by August it will be exactly one year," she explained. "It's been a major decision—stepping outside my comfort zone. Acting was my first profession ever, so becoming a flight attendant was quite a leap."

When asked how long she deliberated before making this life change, Mew became emotional: "I've loved entertainment work since childhood and I truly adored it. But due to various circumstances, I had to leave performing and pursue this new path I chose for myself. It's something I love too, not something I wanted to abandon. It's a mix of sadness and regret. It's hard to explain."

She applied for the airline position almost impulsively. "I didn't think I'd actually get hired," she said. "I applied somewhat jokingly since it was my first attempt. But I studied a bit about what flight attendants do. Everyone at the interview was so prepared and polished, while I just went in casual and unprepared—yet somehow I got the job."

Mew acknowledges that her acting background has helped in her new role. "My entertainment experience helps tremendously. I don't get flustered when encountering various situations like some people might. Acting taught me how to present myself naturally without overthinking or following a script."

When asked if she'd return to acting if roles came her way, Mew hesitated: "Colleagues ask me this frequently. I do miss performing, and I'd love to act again. But there's the contract penalty issue. I'd have to pay 250,000 baht to break my agreement. I'm not wealthy—I need this income to live. For short events maybe, but for a full drama series, I'd have to think carefully about whether it's worthwhile."

As she approaches one year away from acting, Mew admitted her true feelings: "Do I miss it? Constantly. Acting is a profession I've tried so many different things in. It taught me so much."

She ended by thanking viewers of her last series: "To anyone who misses my dramas or the mermaid character I played, thank you for your support."

Tanawat Nitikanchana, chairman of Ratchaburi FC, has announced his resignation from the Thai Football Association's executive board to focus on club operations. Nitikanchana, who previously held the position of Thai League 1 management director and board member, made the announcement through a personal Facebook post. In his statement, he reflected on his decision to join Thai football years ago when the sport faced serious crises, comparing it to taking over a struggling business. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve on the FA board and help manage Thai League 1, while noting he remains available if called upon. He also joked about looking forward to competing against other clubs as Ratchaburi FC's chairman. With Ratchaburi FC facing five competitions during the 2026-27 season, Nitikanchana determined that his resignation from the FA board was necessary to properly focus his efforts on the club without insufficient time to handle both roles effectively.

Police to Arrest Two Laotian Drug Smugglers in Heroin Case

Authorities have mapped a major drug smuggling network linking Laos to Australia and Taiwan, with arrest warrants expected within a week for two Laotian suspects involved in distribution and money transfers.

Police to Arrest Two Laotian Drug Smugglers in Heroin Case
2h ago Khaosod

On July 7 at Samui Hospital in Surat Thani province, Pol. Lt. Gen. Suriya Singhakul, secretary of the Narcotics Control Board, revealed that authorities have now mapped out the entire smuggling network from source countries through transit points to final destinations. The investigation has uncovered clear connections between two major cases: the seizure of heroin at four locations in Bangkok bound for Australia and Taiwan, and the case involving air hostess Meena. Officials have confirmed that both cases are linked through the same network, with drug sources in Laos and endpoints in Australia, and evidence shows the same group of people handling transportation at each stage.

The DSI has taken this as a special case, and on Friday, Deputy Director Wissanu Chimtragul will meet with the Narcotics Control Board to coordinate strategy. It is expected that within the next week, arrest warrants will be issued for two key suspects from a neighboring country involved in money transfers and drug distribution at the local level. Authorities are still verifying whether these individuals are connected to a Facebook account named "Rose Rose," but have not yet confirmed the connection.

Regarding coordination with Australia, the two agencies are exchanging information. A Thai suspect and a Laotian couple arrested in Loei province, along with Uthai who delivered packages to Meena at a condominium in Bangkok's Bangna area, have clear evidence linking them to the same network that hired Meena to transport heroin. The network also planned to recruit additional flight attendants for heroin deliveries to Australia. Though methods of smuggling drugs into Thailand vary, the intermediaries, recipients, and end-point handlers are clearly part of the same organization.

The smuggling operation has employed both airline crew members and civilians hired as drug couriers, with contracts arranged systematically. Pol. Lt. Gen. Suriya warned students, travelers, and the public who frequently travel abroad to be cautious of work offers involving luggage transport or suitcase weight commissions, as they could easily fall victim to recruitment by drug traffickers. Anyone offered suspicious items for transport should immediately report to police to clear their name, as claiming ignorance after heroin is discovered will not serve as a legal defense.

He will join Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim in opening a new customs checkpoint connecting the Sadao border in Songkhla province. When pressed on whether he had met Thaksin since the former PM's prison release, Anuthon gave only a brief acknowledgment that he had not met him in person.

Online Loan Apps: Easy Application, Safe Borrowing

Salaried workers seeking quick cash can use regulated online loan apps, but must verify they're licensed by Thailand's Bank of Thailand and comply with legal interest caps before applying.

Online Loan Apps: Easy Application, Safe Borrowing
2h ago Khaosod

In the digital age where living costs and everyday expenses change rapidly, salaried employees often encounter temporary financial difficulties. Online loan apps have become a popular choice for managing liquidity conveniently. However, the most critical factor is selecting transparent services with legal protection to ensure maximum safety for life and property.

What is Online Loan Service? To better understand this system, borrowing money through technology is the process of submitting personal or revolving credit applications through digital channels, which differs from traditional banking where you must visit a branch. This type of service emphasizes credential verification and document submission via mobile phone, offering quick convenience during emergencies and aligning with modern consumer behavior.

What Must Be Checked for Legally Compliant Services? To protect against silent fraud from illegal loan apps or unregulated quick-loan applications, salaried employees must thoroughly check security standards before registering personal information in any loan app. Services that are legally correct and approved by government agencies must have clear characteristics: proper licensing certified and supervised by the Bank of Thailand (BOT) or Ministry of Finance; interest rate ceilings where total interest and fees do not exceed 25% annually for personal credit groups; transparency and verifiability showing clear company address, phone number, and head office contact channels; and no upfront collection of deposits, document fees, or account opening fees before receiving the loan amount.

How to Check Service Providers on BOT Website The Bank of Thailand has developed a verification system allowing consumers to accurately distinguish legal loan apps from fake applications. All salaried employees can easily follow these verification steps: visit the BOT License Check service page through a browser, enter the app name, company name, or phone number in the search box, review the results showing whether the provider is properly licensed, and download confirmation documents for future reference and assurance.

Recommended 5 Legal Online Loan Apps For salaried employees with stable income and clear salary slips, seeking help within the legal system is the best choice. Here is information on 5 recommended online loan apps that are transparent, safe, and regulated by government agencies.

1. PROMISE - Legal Personal Credit App Promise is a personal credit provider that has supported salaried employees for a long time. Currently it has developed the PROMISE app for online borrowing to increase convenience in applying for revolving credit, with interest rates set at 15-25% annually (calculated with declining principal and interest), maximum loan approval not exceeding 300,000 baht. Easy registration without requiring collateral or guarantors, ideal for salaried workers with income of at least 8,000 baht.

Actress Vern Sets This Year as Deadline for Parenthood Decision
2h ago Khaosod

After two years of marriage to her husband, actress Vern Viridhipya continues to face public scrutiny about starting a family, especially following rumors that she traveled to Hong Kong to seek blessings for having a child. At a recent TDH Dental clinic event in Bangkok, Vern addressed the speculation directly, confirming she has already frozen eggs and completed embryo fertilization, though she remains uncertain about proceeding with pregnancy.

Regarding her Hong Kong trip, Vern clarified it was primarily a vacation with friends rather than a pilgrimage specifically for conceiving. She explained, "People said I went to Hong Kong to ask for a child. Someone mentioned it first, so I went, but it was mainly a friends' trip. We wanted to travel together and relax, though we did visit temples to pray."

When asked if she specifically asked for a child, Vern admitted she's still conflicted. "Honestly, this isn't heavy or serious for me right now because I'm happy," she said. "I see all my friends' children growing up and worry I might run out of time, but I'm still unsure. Every day I think: should I have a child or not? What if my body can't handle it? It's still uncertain."

Vern acknowledged feeling pressure—not from friends surpassing her, but from her age. "It's probably my last year for this. Next year, don't even ask. If it doesn't happen next year, then it won't happen," she stated.

She confirmed the frozen eggs aren't of optimal quality, so she decided to wait for now. Regarding her husband's perspective, Vern revealed they discuss it regularly and have agreed to focus on their family's happiness. "My husband understood from the start. When I married him at 40, he said, 'Don't expect too much about having children,'" she explained.

Vern emphasized that her doctor advised making a decision this year. "The doctor said to decide this year. If you decide not to have a child this year, that's fine," she noted. "Everything is okay health-wise, but I need to hurry because age waits for no one."

Ultimately, Vern expressed that if having a child doesn't work out, she and her husband can be happy living together as a couple of two. "If my body can't handle it or it's not possible, we'll let nature take its course. Being together as two is enough," she concluded.
