Police arrested two Laotian suspects on July 15 in connection with a major heroin trafficking operation that supplied drugs to Australia through a Thai network. The investigation began after 26-year-old Armina was caught smuggling heroin into Australia, leading authorities to identify four additional key Thai operatives: a delivery driver who transported packages to Armina's condominium, a friend who helped destroy evidence hidden in an elephant-embroidered bag, Ekawitthaya who operated a LINE account under the alias "Rin Rin" and served as a command-level organizer, and Chantra who used the Facebook account "Rose Rose" to coordinate the smuggling of 12 bags with Armina.
Three Laotian nationals were identified as the masterminds directing the smuggling operation: Saiyane (or Thao Saiyane) Buarappai, Nan Buarappai, and Un (or Thao Un) Naotharat. Thai authorities confirmed that Laotian officials have arrested Saiyane and Nan, while Un remains at large. Rather than extradite the suspects to Thailand immediately, Thai and Laotian authorities agreed to pursue further investigation in Laos to identify higher-level international drug trafficking organizations involved in the operation.
Investigators revealed that over the past two to three years, the three Laotian suspects worked with Thai national Utit and Laotian national Thatsaporn, a married couple, in a recurring smuggling scheme. The drugs were transferred at a spot beneath a fig tree on the Thai side of the Mekong River in Loei Province, where Thai operatives would collect packages containing heroin and deliver them to transport companies for distribution across Thailand. This network successfully moved multiple drug shipments into Bangkok's inner areas.
