Klong Toei District Tackles Drug Problem With Treatment and Job Training
Klong Toei District has reduced drug use through community patrols and a rehabilitation program combining mental health treatment, job training, and financial support for recovered users seeking employment.
On June 30, 2025, Bamrung Samneang, director of Klong Toei District, reported that drug use cases in the area have declined thanks to coordinated community patrols conducted with local police. Investigations revealed that unemployment, family instability, poverty, and stress are the primary drivers of addiction, with some users beginning with mild substances before progressing to harder drugs.
Bamrung explained the district's integrated response: reported cases are coordinated with police and Health Service Center 41 to locate users. Those with mental health issues receive hospital treatment first. After recovery, social workers follow up with home visits and ongoing support.
For trafficking cases, legal proceedings are pursued. Users showing genuine commitment to recovery are offered vocational training at Klong Toei Vocational School through three-month courses, leading to employment opportunities. The district provides occupational startup funds up to 5,000 baht per person, with additional support of 20,000 baht available through the Office of the Narcotics Control Board. District officials pledged to continue intensive patrols to steadily reduce drug use in the community.
