Last Missing Hiker Found in Thailand's Tham Luang National Park
A 39‑year‑old man who had been lost for two days in Tham Luang‑Khun Nam Nang Non National Park was found alive on October 5, 2026. He and two companions had entered the forest to gather forest products but became separated and unable to return. Rescue teams provided him with food and water before escorting him out, ending the search operation.
The last missing person from a group of three villagers has been found in Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Non National Park. The men—a stepfather, his stepson, and a neighbor—had entered the forest near Ban Chong, Moo 9, Pong Phra subdistrict, Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai province on October 2, 2026 to collect bamboo worms and other forest products. They became separated and were unable to find their way back. After losing contact, the 39-year-old stepson, Thanon Bunyod, called his family saying he was cold and hungry before his phone battery died. Search teams located the stepfather and neighbor safely on October 4, and on October 5 at 1:07 PM park officials announced that Thanon Bunyod had been found. He was visibly exhausted from lack of food, received water and basic nourishment, and was being assisted down the mountain. Authorities coordinated with the park’s search-and-rescue center to bring him out and arranged for a medical check-up. All search units were then stood down after all three missing persons were accounted for.
