Doctor Conned Out of 20 Million Baht by Partner Who Had Hidden Husband
A Khon Kaen doctor was defrauded of 20 million baht by his girlfriend of six years, who concealed that she was already married and used the money to support her hidden husband.
On September 14, an LGBTQ+ doctor and clinic owner sought help from a social media page after his former girlfriend defrauded him over six years, spending more than 20 million baht with the hope of building a life together and marrying once marriage equality passed. When he proposed registering their marriage after the law changed, she refused. Upon investigation, he discovered she was already married and had been using all the money he gave her to support her husband.
The couple met on Facebook in 2019 when the woman posted about a recent breakup. She consistently told him she was single. They met in person at a Loy Krathong festival that year and began dating despite initial disappointment with her appearance. The doctor eventually moved to Khon Kaen province to be closer to her, initially working part-time as a physician before leasing and investing in a clinic where he hired her as a receptionist for 50,000 baht per month.
During their six years together, the woman spent lavishly on branded goods, cosmetics, and jewelry. The doctor paid for everything, including an Honda H-RV which she complained drove uncomfortably, prompting him to upgrade to a BMW X1 with a down payment exceeding 400,000 baht. He also purchased 50 baht of gold and an iPhone 14 Pro Max, with total expenditure reaching no less than 20 million baht.
After three to four years, the woman became disinterested in the clinic, preferring to attend parties. When marriage equality passed and the doctor proposed registering their marriage as previously agreed, she repeatedly refused and evaded the issue. His investigation revealed she was already married to another man and living in the same house with him. When confronted, she admitted to being married but claimed she was forced into it and had no choice but to stay. However, all 20 million baht the doctor spent went directly to supporting her husband.
The doctor reports being threatened and unable to return to work at the clinic. He is demanding justice and the return of all assets, and has called on the woman's parents to provide financial documentation if they claim she borrowed money from him. He plans to pursue full legal action.
