Lottery Vendor Files Complaint After Overpaying Couple by 50,000 Baht
A lottery vendor in Loei Province filed a police complaint after mistakenly giving a couple 50,100 baht in change instead of 80 baht during a rushed transaction at Wang Saphung Market.
On September 7, Wirat Thummali, 55, a government lottery ticket vendor from Maha Sarakham Province, filed a complaint with Officer Kamaeng Phon, an investigator at Wang Saphung Police Station in Wang Saphung District, Loei Province. He requested assistance in locating customers who purchased lottery tickets at Wang Saphung Market and absconded with over 50,000 baht that he mistakenly gave as change.
According to Wirat's account, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a male and female couple, believed to be husband and wife, came to his shop to buy lottery tickets—2 boxes containing 600 tickets for a total of 49,920 baht. The woman handed him 50,000 baht. With several other customers waiting, Wirat counted the money, verified it was complete, and handed the tickets to the man with his right hand.
He then prepared 80 baht in change, holding it in his left hand along with the payment slip. However, in the confusion, he accidentally handed over all 50,100 baht in that hand to the man, mistakenly believing he had already stored the payment in the drawer. When the man received the money, he hesitated briefly before quickly grabbing it, and the couple rapidly left the shop.
About a minute later, Wirat realized his mistake and rushed out to find them, but they had vanished. The incident was recorded in full on the market's CCTV cameras. Wirat stated he will pursue legal action to the fullest extent if the couple does not contact him to return the money.
