Mae Wong National Park Closes Due to Heavy Rain Landslides
Mae Wong National Park in Kamphaeng Phet Province has closed its tourism and camping areas after heavy rain triggered landslides that destroyed the Chong Yen campsite and washed out roads. Officials are clearing debris with heavy machinery and assessing safety while offering refunds or alternate lodging to affected visitors. The park will remain closed until conditions return to normal.
Officials at Mae Wong National Park announced the temporary suspension of tourism and camping starting October 7, 2026, due to relentless heavy rain and strong winds that caused landslides, flash floods, and widespread damage. The Chong Yen and Khun Nam Yen areas suffered severe erosion, with campsites and check-in points collapsing into deep gullies, trees falling, and structures damaged. Roads were severed by mudslides, eroded surfaces, and fallen trees blocking power lines and traffic. Workers are using heavy equipment to clear debris and stabilize the site. Those who reserved lodging or campsites can request refunds through the Department of National Parks website at https://nps.dnp.go.th/index.php or email abanpak025795269@gmail.com, or arrange to stay at the park office instead. For inquiries, call 0-2579-6666 ext. 1743-1744 or the Mae Wa-Va ranger station at 06-1140-5786.
