Maersk to Expand Green Logistics Investment in Thailand's Ports
Deputy Transport Minister Sansapech Bunyaman met with Maersk’s René Piil Pedersen to discuss expanding investment in green logistics, including green methanol ships, electric trucks, and digital upgrades. The talks aim to strengthen the rail link between Lat Krabang ICD and Laem Chabang Port and position Thailand as a Smart & Green Port hub. Maersk reaffirmed its long‑term commitment to Thailand, having operated there for over 75 years.
The Ministry of Transport announced it will leverage the partnership to develop Thailand into a regional logistics center while promoting eco-friendly water transport to achieve a 'Smart & Green Port' and 'Green Logistics Corridor'. Maersk presented plans to use green methanol-powered container ships and electric trucks for cargo movement, and to apply digital technologies to improve logistics management. Discussions also covered upgrading the rail link between Lat Krabang ICD and Laem Chabang Port to boost transport efficiency and create a sustainable, environmentally friendly supply chain. Sansapech said the dialogue with the global logistics leader is a crucial step for knowledge exchange, expanding cooperation, and unlocking new investment to upgrade Thailand's logistics infrastructure for future trade and investment.
