Man beats two young brothers with golf club over skipped schoolLegacyA 45-year-old father has filed a police report accusing his son-in-law of beating his two young sons with a golf club. The boys were left injured after they skipped school. The father, Wisanu, reported the assault to Bang Bua Thong police on August 20. He named the suspect as Don, around 20, and brought the golf club in as evidence. The attack happened around 2:30pm on August 20, at a community in Moo 2, Lahan subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi province. The two boys, 11-year-old Pong and 7-year-old Pang, ran out of the house to seek help. They said Don had hit them on the head, face and body with a golf club. Their 69-year-old grandfather, Wichai, said he was resting in a hammock when he heard the boys crying. He opened the door and found the suspect holding the golf club, while one of the boys had his hands raised in a wai, trying to plead with him. When Wichai tried to reach the room from another direction, he said he saw the suspect holding a knife before someone stopped him from going further. Wisanu, who wasn’t home at the time, said the suspect is his sons’ brother-in-law, married to their older sister. He said the attack was likely triggered by the boys skipping school. He added that the suspect had threatened them before and appeared to be under the influence of cannabis.

Pong said he and his brother were sitting in a room when the suspect came in. The suspect scolded them for skipping school, then hit them both with the golf club several times. His younger brother ran to tell their grandfather. Pong raised his hands in a wai, but the suspect slapped him on the head anyway. Their father took them to see a doctor afterward. Local aides to a Nonthaburi MP, Saichon Nitkham and Kraithawat Thammathada, said they received a call around 7pm. It reported that two boys had been assaulted by their sister’s partner over skipping school, with injuries to the head, jaw and hands. They helped bring the family to file the report at Bang Bua Thong police station. Police have referred the boys for a medical examination and plan to interview the parents and children with a multidisciplinary team before summoning the suspect to face charges. Related news

Nan Prepares for New Rain Band on August 23

Nan province braces for fresh rainfall on August 23 after water levels stabilize, with four districts under close watch as forecasted 50-70mm of rain could trigger faster water runoff through moisture-saturated soil.

Nan Prepares for New Rain Band on August 23

The government continues to monitor the Nan River Basin as water levels begin to stabilize and recede. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for fresh rainfall expected to return to the upper Nan River basin on August 23, with four districts designated for close observation and alert coordination. On August 22, Deputy Government Spokesman Lalida Perischvivat revealed that the government remains in continuous contact with the flood situation in Nan province. The government is preparing to manage incoming rain forecast for the upper Nan River basin on August 23, emphasizing close monitoring of rainfall data, water mass, and local conditions to enable timely warnings and public assistance. According to the National Water Resources Office assessment, the upper Nan River basin areas requiring close watch on August 23 include the districts of Pua, Song Khwae, Chiang Klang, and Thung Chang, which may experience accumulated rainfall of approximately 50–70 millimeters over 24 hours. While the forecasted rainfall does not match the intensity of the previous heavy downpour, soil in some areas still retains moisture from prior rainfall, prompting relevant agencies to maintain close observation. The deputy spokesman emphasized that although the rainfall is expected to be lighter than before, saturated soil reduces water absorption capacity and may cause water to flow into rivers more quickly. The government is prioritizing advance preparations, particularly for hillside areas, waterway passages, and low-lying zones, to ensure the public receives rapid information and warnings if conditions change. The government has urged the public to proceed with normal activities while staying informed through official channels, especially those in hillside areas, near waterways, and low-lying zones, as well as residents in Ta Wang Pha, Mueang Nan, Phu Phiang, and Wiang Sa districts, who must continue monitoring water flow from upstream areas. Relevant agencies have readied information systems, alert protocols, personnel, and equipment to manage the situation.

Thailand Pushes Direct Bangkok-Auckland Route Before 2028

Thailand is accelerating plans to launch a direct Bangkok-Auckland flight before 2028, with Deputy PM Ekniti directing Thai Airways to speed up the initiative once new aircraft arrive. The route aims to boost tourism, trade, and bilateral t

Thailand Pushes Direct Bangkok-Auckland Route Before 2028
3h ago Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitivattananon announced during a visit to NZAero at Ardmore Airport in Auckland on August 21, 2025, that Thailand is pushing to reopen the direct Bangkok-Auckland route sooner than the original 2028 timeline previously set by Thai Airways. The route was discussed between Thai and New Zealand leaders as a way to improve travel convenience and strengthen business, tourism, trade, and people-to-people ties—key elements in deepening bilateral cooperation.

Ekniti has instructed Lavorn Sangsomnit, Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary and Thai Airways chairman, to accelerate the initiative. The main constraint is ensuring Thai Airways has sufficient aircraft, particularly as it receives new planes on order. The government is already coordinating with Auckland Airport authorities to secure flight slots and allocate capacity in advance, so operations can begin smoothly once the airline is ready.

Beyond the direct route, Ekniti said there is potential for deeper commercial cooperation. Both Thai Airways and Air New Zealand are Star Alliance members, making a code-share agreement possible to improve passenger connections. He noted that New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon previously served as Air New Zealand's chief executive, giving him strong insight into aviation economics and the route's potential.

"We see more opportunity in code-share cooperation than competition, as it benefits both sides and is a win-win," Ekniti said. "It will make travel, trade, investment, and tourism between Thailand and New Zealand more convenient."

Ekniti added that an earlier Bangkok-Auckland service would significantly support economic cooperation as both countries deepen relations and open new collaborative areas in tourism, agriculture, food, clean energy, and investment.

Thai Star Arm Suphachai Grieves Mentor Ray McDonald

Thai striker Arm Suphachai tearfully honored his late mentor Ray McDonald, who discovered him as a child in Thailand's south and sponsored his rise to professional football stardom.

Thai Star Arm Suphachai Grieves Mentor Ray McDonald

Thai national team striker Arm Suphachai Jaidej has tearfully paid tribute to Ray McDonald, the man he credits as his second father and most influential mentor. McDonald, who discovered Suphachai as a young footballer in Thailand's southern border provinces and became his sponsor at age 11, passed away two months ago. Suphachai has opened up about their relationship, from the moment McDonald recruited him for a trial in Sweden through to becoming a professional footballer capable of supporting his family with pride.

Suphachai recalled how McDonald came to the southern border provinces to scout footballers for a trip to Sweden. "I was just a kid playing football at home and at school down south," Suphachai said. "Ray had a program because he had once represented Thailand in competitions abroad. One day he came to select footballers to take to Sweden. I was one of those selected. Ray was club president at the time. He brought coaching staff and a football teacher to scout players. He supported the team and took us to compete. He did everything. At that time I didn't even know who he was, but after getting to know him I felt a strong bond."

Suphachai emphasized McDonald's profound impact on his life. "Ray lived alongside us and mixed with all the athletes. He treated everyone equally, not just the kids from the three southern border provinces but children from other nearby areas as well. Many southern kids knew Ray back then. He was someone who genuinely cared. Few people are like that—someone who gives opportunities to others."

When Suphachai was just 11 years old, McDonald asked his parents' permission to become his foster father and bring him to Bangkok to pursue a professional football career. "He promised my parents he would take care of me," Suphachai recalled. "I will never forget that. I was so happy. He gave his word to my parents that he would look after me."

Suphachai credits McDonald as the architect of his success. "Ray opened the door and gave me the opportunity. He set an example for me to strive and fight for everything to reach this point. He never took credit from me." Now playing for Buriram United, Suphachai occasionally returns to Bangkok, but treasures the foundation McDonald built for his entire career.

Minister Opens Doi Phu Kha Emergency Shelter, Deploys Helicopters

Helicopters deployed emergency supplies to flood-isolated communities in Nan Province's Doi Phu Kha area after roads and bridges were damaged, with an emergency shelter opened to coordinate relief efforts.

Minister Opens Doi Phu Kha Emergency Shelter, Deploys Helicopters
3h ago Khaosod

On August 21, 2025, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin instructed ministry agencies to accelerate aid to people affected by flooding in Nan Province, particularly in the Doi Phu Kha area where multiple communities are isolated due to damaged roads and bridges. An emergency shelter has been opened at Doi Phu Kha National Park to receive affected residents and coordinate urgent relief efforts.

Floodwaters have made several transport routes impassable, and temporary bailey bridges have not yet been installed. Ground vehicle assistance is therefore limited, prompting the ministry to coordinate with Nan Province and related foundations to deliver food, drinking water, and essential supplies to stranded communities.

Minister Suchart emphasized that the ministry's strength lies in its capacity and equipment to reach areas inaccessible by ground transport, particularly ministry helicopters capable of rapidly delivering food, water, and survival kits to remote or cut-off zones. "The priority now is getting aid to people as quickly as possible," he said. "Some areas cannot be reached by vehicles, but our helicopters can support the mission and deliver essentials, which is a key strength of the ministry in handling emergencies."

Dr. Raviwan Phurideach, the ministry's permanent secretary, reported that on August 21, the Northern Regional Operations Center coordinated with Nan's Natural Resources and Environment Office to deploy two ministry helicopters (numbered 1117 and 5120) carrying supplies to two villages in Pua District—Ban Nam Khwang and Ban Pha Wiang—that have been cut off by road damage. The mission includes 600 boxed meals and 80 survival kits, with flights scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and a third flight planned for the morning of August 22.

Minister Suchart also emphasized the use of satellite imagery technology from GISTDA to support situation management. Real-time satellite imagery allows officials to assess ground conditions and plan routes and aid distribution points efficiently. The ministry is leveraging both personnel and helicopter resources, supported by satellite data, to respond effectively to the emergency.

A massive fire broke out at a plywood manufacturing facility in Nong Prueau subdistrict, Panasnikorn District, Chon Buri at 1 a.m. on August 22, prompting Panasnikorn Police Station to dispatch officers and firefighting units from multiple areas to the scene. The blaze engulfed two factory warehouses with intense flames and plumes of dark smoke rising high into the sky, requiring firefighters to simultaneously spray water from numerous fire trucks to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring areas. Despite over five hours of continuous firefighting efforts by all units working at full capacity with more than 20 fire trucks on scene, the fire remained uncontrolled as of 6:30 a.m., with flames continuing to flare up intermittently inside the warehouses. Firefighting officials attributed the difficulty in controlling the blaze to the large warehouse area and the abundance of plywood inside, which are highly combustible materials that generate intense heat and cause recurring ignition. Authorities are currently continuing suppression efforts while assessing damage and securing the surrounding area, with the cause of the fire and estimated loss of property still under detailed investigation.
