Mercedes-Benz Thailand Chief Vows Factory Investment Gains for All
Mercedes-Benz Thailand will launch the all-new electric GLC SUV priced under 3.7 million baht at year-end Motor Expo, targeting higher sales than its electric CLA model while investing in expanded local manufacturing.
Christian Shell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz Thailand, announced earlier this year that beyond celebrating the brand's 140th anniversary in the automotive world, there are more surprises ahead.
New electric vehicle launches Following the strong market reception of the all-new electric CLA, which has set new standards for modern electric vehicles and delivered approximately 2,000 units to customers, Mercedes-Benz is introducing the all-new electric GLC mid-size SUV to the Thai market. Priced at no more than 3.7 million baht, the vehicle will be officially unveiled at the Motor Expo at the end of this year.
Highlights of the all-new electric GLC Starting with the exterior, the iconic grille features a new design that merges the brand's heritage and DNA with the concept of "Sensual Purity" and the philosophy of reduction, creating a contemporary simplicity that makes an immediate impression. The front design incorporates illuminated elements using light, while the side lines and rear design employ light and shadow techniques to emphasize power and distinction. Inside the cabin, amenities are integrated into the overall design, including the MBUX Hyperscreen spanning the entire console, galvanized air vents, climate control, and ambient lighting that synchronizes with different driving modes.
Sales expectations The all-new electric GLC targets a popular market segment among Thai consumers. Expectations are for sales to exceed those of the all-new electric CLA, with confidence that the vehicle's appearance, performance, and practicality will make it highly popular. Early customers can take delivery within the first or second quarter of next year.
Will economic slowdown impact sales? Mercedes-Benz differs from other automotive brands due to its long history in both global and Thai markets. Customers remember experiences and brand milestones, and trust in product quality and after-sales service, creating a loyal customer base. If a model has clear design that reflects identity and suits customers' self-image, they are ready to purchase immediately.
Government preparing excise tax adjustments Mercedes-Benz remains committed to investing in Thailand despite already operating seven to eight factories and importing electric vehicles with tax benefits. The company believes factory operations create benefits for all stakeholders—the company, customers, and Thailand itself. Currently operating automotive and battery plants, the brand plans to expand electric vehicle assembly at Thai facilities in the future.
