Minister Denies PBS-Public Broadcasting Merger Reports
The Public Broadcasting Service's government overseer denied merger reports with Thailand PBS on September 15, stating the broadcaster received no official notification while confirming ongoing efforts to address years of financial losses.
On September 15, 2025, at Government House, Supumas Issaraphakdi, Minister of Prime Minister's Office and overseer of the Public Broadcasting Service, addressed rumors of a merger between the Public Broadcasting Service and Thailand PBS. She stated that she was previously unaware of such plans, and upon inquiring with the Public Broadcasting Service management, they confirmed they had received no official notification of any merger. However, the Public Broadcasting Service is currently working closely with the State Enterprise Policy Office to prevent ongoing financial losses that have persisted for years. Supumas emphasized that all staff, particularly personnel, should remain reassured and not alarmed, as the merger reports are merely speculation attributed to sources within the Ministry of Finance. As the Public Broadcasting Service's overseer, she and the government are committed to maintaining staff morale, motivation, and job security. Any organizational changes, if they occur, will be in a positive direction. The organization is currently undergoing a management transition and restructuring to improve programming. The Public Broadcasting Service possesses television, radio, digital platforms, technology, and knowledgeable personnel, but must adapt to remain competitive in a challenging media landscape.
