Mother Finds Son Dead in Bedroom After Two Days
A 23-year-old man in Chon Buri was found dead in his bedroom after two days of isolation; his mother discovered him on September 21, with police investigating what appears to be a suicide linked to depression and cannabis use.
A mother was devastated to discover her son dead in his bedroom after he had not left the room for two days. Police at Nong Prue Police Station in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province, responded to a report of a death at a residential building at 5:30 a.m. on September 21, 2025, accompanied by rescue personnel.
At the scene, officers found the body of 23-year-old Chaiyapol (surname withheld) in his bedroom. His death appeared to be a suicide. Cannabis equipment was found beside his bed.
When questioned, his mother, 49, explained that her son had been suffering from depression and was an anxious person. His phone had broken about a week earlier, leaving him isolated and increasingly withdrawn. Although he had previously struggled with drug addiction and received treatment, he had recently been using cannabis regularly.
In the days before his death, her son had stayed in his room for about two days without coming out. Normally, when she returned from work, he would come out to eat. Before the incident, he had asked her for 20 baht three times to buy cannabis, but she refused. This upset him, and he accused her of not loving him and not caring, before becoming angry and refusing to speak to her.
After that, her son remained in his room. She initially thought he was sleeping. When she could not contact him for approximately two days and he did not come out to eat, she became concerned. The prepared food sat untouched, and she noticed his bedroom light remained on all day and night, which was unusual as he normally turned it off when sleeping.
On the day of the incident, after returning from work, she found him still in the same position. She knocked and called out, but sensing something was wrong, she asked a friend to help pry open the door with a screwdriver. That was when she discovered her son was already dead.
Nong Prue Police have initiated an investigation into the death and are following legal procedures to determine the cause. Initial information about his depression and the circumstances preceding his death came from his mother's statement.
